I got contracted for 1A2XX(loadmaster) in the Air Force earlier this month, and I couldn't be more excited!! only bad thing is that I have to wait til March for basic.

so, anyone else here playing the hurry up and wait game?

I did...back in 1989. Actually, now that I think about it today is my enlistment date!!! And a loadmaster is a great job to have in the USAF. You get to see the world. Good luck and remember....DON'T VOLUNTEER FOR ANYTHING!!!

congrats on the anniversary! I don't plan on volunteering for anything through basic and tech school, but after that I'll be volunteering for any flights I can get. that is based on the assumption that the job is half as good as my recruiter/ every other person I have talked to said it was.

I had plenty of friends who were loadmasters and they always had a great story to tell. I worked with them on a daily basis being that I worked in cargo.

Here's some history for you....

Yeah, Im in the Marine Corps DEP rite now. not for long though, I am leaving sunday for MCRD Parris Island. I am going in for Aircrew. I have been in since July, so i had pretty much the same wait as you will have. If you think the hurry up and wait is bad for you now, wait till your getting down to your last few weeks. it is all you will think about hah. The good thing about the wait is that you have plenty of time to get ready for training.

I was in the Navy DEP back in Nov. '84, went to boot camp in Great Lakes, IL in June '85. Tough wait for me at that time, too. nbrown_303 is right; getting to boot was all I thought about for the last two months.

Thanks to you guys for your service, and good luck and my prayers go with you. Enjoy your Thanksgiving.

Congrats on getting Aircrew also. It seems like you can't go wrong with any aircrew job. Do you know what specific job you'll have?

It'll be a while before you realize how cool your job is. Don't make the mistake of thinking its going to be better than someone else's lot. In basic it doesn't matter what rate or mos you contracted for, you are all undesignated there. In tech school you are still fresh in and untrained so you aren't contributing anything yet. Once you get to the fleet or squadron you will have to pay your dues as lower enlisted. Point being, you will not be a god amongst men ;). You will be a young man paying dues and hopefully gaining the respect of your peers and seniors. I am not trying to bash you here, you seem really excited about your future and that's awesome. However, some preconceptions and misconceptions can hamper your enjoyment once the reality of miltary life sets in. Once you get the chance to prove yourself and when you do prove yourself, the military takes on a whole new life. It's awesome, entertaining and the best education you will Ever receive.

don't worry I know all that, well the best anyone who hasn't been there done that can know. like I said below, that is a direct quote from my recruiter
You should make sure you tell your TI that...

definitely not lol. I only said that because it was a direct quote from my recruiter.

either way I didn't realize how conceited that sounded when I posted. post edited

Don't worry about it man. Best advice, in case you recruiter didn't give it, don't take anything personally no matter how personal it may seem. Good luck to you. You are about to join the greatest brotherhood a man can know.

I was in DEP back in 83. As soon as I graduated the next day I was on a plane to MCRD.The Marine Corps is the best brotherhood in the world!!!!!!

Just giving you a little crap :) Loadmaster's a good job, you'll be one of the few enlisted that actually DO get to see the world.

Hell, congrats on going AF.
I'm Army (currently Reserve) and you guys get treated very well compared to the other branches.
Have fun in San Antonio. I had a blast there while at Ft. Sam for combat medic training. Check out the River Walk when you graduate.
