Any other "Secret" Sebenzas out there??

As a"newbie" to this Forum I have been bitten by the Sebbie bug.

Started out last week with a small Sebenza, then a large Wood Inlaid 1999, then a large Solar Wind, then a ...., well you get the idea.

I just scored a large Tanto Sebenza. A quick call to CRK after the purchase confirmed that this one was a little unusual in that it is one of only fourteen that were shipped with S30V steel instead of BG42.

I know that the rest of the items I want to add to my budding collection will require time and patience in acquiring viable additions. The real question here is, are there other "secret" , ie Sebenzas not listed on the CRK website??

Your wisdom and guidance will be appreciated.

There not secret anymore but fairly new. The Classic Sebbies inlaid with leather and wood.

Thanks for the reminder, saw them when I was at CRK last week. Will be available for awhile I think. I am really interested in the Sebbies that are not as well known.
Thanks!

Have you seen the LDC Sebenzas?

Re: LDC Sebenzas

Lovely- I especially like the grind along the front tip of the blade [that would be a swedge, correct?]. It makes the blade look very beefy- how come they don't use it anymore? oh, and what does LDC stand for?

Thanks,
Frank

James,

Is this another "Limited Edition" like the Large Tanto that CRK made up for a particular group? I haven't seen this particular model mentioned in any of the threads on the Forums. Is there more information in the Archived Forums?

I have to say that this section of the Forum and the discussions with pictures have been highly entertaining and educational ;)

I am amazed at the depth and diversity of your collection. Please tell me more, or point me in the right direction if this is a commercially available limited production. Another thread had the link to Nordic Knives where I bought the Tanto today, so any help would be appreciated. I want to get this type of Sebenza now, and then add in the regularly available types when the right opportunity is presented.

Thanks again.

Les Robertson, of Robertson Custom Cutlery, commissioned various knives from custom makers under the banner LDC, much like his current Vanguard line. There were twenty different models, and Chris made the models numbered LDC-9 and LDC-109, based on the large and small Sebenza, respectively. Each model had 50 numbered pieces, and there is no reason to believe there will ever be any more made. The swedge on the blade is a little longer than what I have seen on other Sebenzas with this modification, the handle grooves are on both sides of the knife and are unique to the model.

James,

Since your page shows that you have set #20 of 50 and the link to Robertsons page has no mention of the CRKs, am I correct in assuming this set is no longer available?

Gregg, limited to 50, very hard to find on the secondary market nowadays. I carried the large on and off for a while, the grooves didn't do much for me and collected dirt but the swedge is handy sometimes. I still can't figure out what that extra hole is for, not large enough to cut a cigar with...maybe Les wanted to shave an extra hair off the weight ;)

stjames, I saw that LDC on E-Bay last night, man I guess my LDC Small must be worth $600 because it's got a lower serial number   ;)

Seriously, I think my small LDC is my favorite Sebenza, even over my small Wood Inlay. It has a ton of character, is easily refurbished and fairly rare.

Do a search and the history on it is a nice evenings worth of reading as well.

If you want one I wouldn't be surprised if a little bit of due dilligence over in the "Wanted to Buy" forum would turn one up for the $300 to $400 range for either size.

They can even be found with black coatings but in smaller numbers and without a warranty ;)

Here's a picture of my backside (just what you've all been wanting to see ;))

O.K., you LDC-icks, How does the milled grooves affect your grip? Any different than a plain or classic?
Thanks,
Barry H

LDC 109 #17 present and accounted for....:D

Do the grooves aid in grip? I guess it all depends on what you're using it for and under what conditions.

It's interesting that the one on eBay is listed as new and unused, but the tip of the thubstud is worn, there's no box or paperwork, and it's got some sort of fob in place of the original lanyard. It still doesn't have any bids on it....I just can't believe he started the auction at $575!

I really enjoy mine, I got it for a reasonable price from a good guy and fellow forumite, and it's been an excellent edc for me. The fact that it's fairly rare and has some interesting history behind it makes it all the better.

Used to be that one could view the entire LDC series at Robertson's site. If you find one, and you have the means, I'd highly recommend one. $575 seems a bit much though. ;)

Firebat,

Thank you for that interesting footnote to StJames' post of the LDC. Your picture has gone into my library of sebbies to watch. As my odyssey in search of sebbies has taken through the various "blade" forums on the internet, I am finding more and information on the knives I need to search out. I know that there will be a number that will be difficult or next to impossible to acquire, and really will be dependent on recognizing an opportunity to acquire something I should have in my Sebenza "Collection". Items like the LDC, Flat Ground, and NICA Sebenzas that are still fairly recent editions will be comparitively "easy" to find unlike StJames early "H" and Prototype Sebenzas :( Thanks for all the great input from what I hope I can consider all my fellow Sebenza~holics

I don't believe anyone has mentioned the "Gold Coin" series of Large Sebenza's here.

Do a search on "Gold Coin" and in the past 60 days or so some photos should be available for you to see.

also the Calvary Sebenza is not listed on the CRK site.... it is not very common but available...
