The old Buck 105 that is. I recently picked on up used, it took a very good edge and it seems to me that this would be a very good all around hunting/camping knife. Anyone use this one in their outdoor work?
That was one of the knives that I really wanted when I was younger, but never got around to buying. I've moved on to other designs now, but I still like that one.
UDTJim, The Buck 105 was the first hunting knife I bought for my son when he was 12 (11 years ago) That knife has always performed flawless. I bought my self one about a year after I got his. We have used them quite a bit for gutting, skinning and processing deer. I have never had a complaint about them.
I also recently picked one up used. Haven't had a chance to use it much, but I agree that it should be a good low cost all-around hunting/camp knife. Of course there are better knives for specific tasks such as the Buck Vanguard for field dressing deer and maybe a Rat 7 for batoning. And while no one knife can do all jobs equally well I think the Pathfinder will serve well for a wide variety to tasks.
I have always liked the 102 (4" blade version) for hunting. Never did much woodcraft or camp chores with it, but for field dressing whitetail, it can't be beat. I've tried knives that are several times the price, and I just like the feel and shape of the 102 better than anything else I have tried...so far.
anybody know if Bucks custom shop does these? I'd love to get one in a better blade steel and cool handle material. Not that it is really necessary, but then again I don't technically need to carry a Strider to clean my fingernails either, but thats probably one of its most common tasks.
