any pics of the spyderco bushcraft and its sheath would be greatly appreciated. i really cant wait for this thing.

There are some shots of the prototype on page 3 of this thread over on the Spyderco Factory Forum. None of the sheath, at least none that I'm aware of.

ok thanks deacon, im really curious about the sheath. i had thought the bushcraft would be released already.

It's an ambi leather sheath.

We should have pics (& product) in a couple of weeks.

couple of weeks sounds great. im thinking that virtualy every poster on the wilderness survival board is going to buy one of these. plus all those bushcrafters in the uk that are frustrated about not being able to buy the ray mears knife, plus loyal spyderco followers. im not sure there will be enough cows to make the sheaths. i wonder if the sheath is square? i really wonder if i will need another fixed blade after i get this. i really cant imagine why i would. this is the absolute best possible fixed blade knife for me. i want to see the pics. i want to get this knife in my possession. i want to use this knife in the woods. spyderco quality and bushcraft design brought together!

and im going to sharpen it on my sharpmaker when it gets dull. just not going to bring up that subject in the traditional knives forum is all.

Fear not. We kill and butcher a thousand head a week here. ;)

I wonder what the bevel angle is on the Bushcraft knife and if they will recommend you use the Sharpmaker? It looks like from the pictures that it has a full scandi bevel.

That is what the grooves on the bottom of the Sharpmaker are for.

You can lay the rods in the base to form a bench stone. Works great for chisels or large knives. The slots accept all the stones (diamond, brown, white, ultrafine) so in addition to a croc stick setup you have a complete set of bench stones to go with it.

I was aware that you could lay the rods in the groove on the bottom, and I have did this before, but the rods don't seem to line up perfectly and they move around a little too much for my tastes.

A thousand a week? Child's play! Last I heard, the plant at Schuyler, NE did about 4800 head a day. Probably down a bit right now, as demand isn't as great right now, but I'm sure they could supply plenty of hides for a few tiny knife sheaths.

Things are down here as well, but even so, that is a very conservative estimate. I've seen times when they were running eight hundred a day seven days a week. (That may have been per shift, but I've never worked out there.)

i didnt know they went through that many cows. its almost philosophical when you think about it. very destructive. i hope out there in space we arent being observed by aliens descended from cow ancestors. they would be plenty pissed. oh man when can i get that bushcraft?

Not a bad deal at all Jigged Bone. You must remember, the cows are farting the earth to death. Methane and whatnot from all that rumination stuff they do.

Besides that, cattle make more of themselves very well.

well the release date is closer still and i saw on another thread some pictures of the knife and sheath. wonder if we will get any official word soon? not a traditional sheath in the photos, no firesteel loop. some critics posting negative comments in that thread already. i suppose the buyers of this knife would be some of the most decerning knife users on the market, i wonder how much sales will be lost to custom makers? such discriminating users will always find something not to like. from steel choice to sheath design.
