Does anyone have sideby side pics of a BM blackwood, and fullsize emerson commander together, so I can see how much bigger the blackwood is?, thanks in advance..

No offense, but the sole reason why threads like this one sometimes turn into a pissing contest are replies like yours that are totally unrelated to the thread starter's question.

Its a super commander, which I believe is like 1/4" longer than the regular commander.

Ya' know, I know this thread has nothing to do with the whole "Benchmade ripped off Emerson" thing, but I'll put my two cents in anyway. Other than a similar handle shape (which MANY knife companies have similar handle shapes), I don't see a big enough similarity to make such a claim. Yeah, they both have recurved blade. So what. Other than that, the blades are very different. Blah blah blah. SOOOOooooo many knives have similarities, that a person could pretty much pick any knife and find one that they could say is a 'rip off'. If I sound cranky, I am. It's 80 degrees and humid as Hell where I live. Oh yeah, and my place doesn't have air conditioning.

I dont think the originator of this thread intended to start an "is it a copy" thread. I think he merely wanted to see how much bigger the 630 is than the commander.

I took the commander/supercommander comparison pic and the 630/supercommander comparison pic and generated this pic that compares a 630 to a regular commander. It isn't going to be exact. but I tried my best to match up the size of the two supercommanders before I cut and pasted.

As soon as I get a 630 I'll post a real pic.

Shootist, have you handled the BM630? It doesn't look like enough difference in size to even say so. I say this because I have read alot of post saying the BM is a large knife. I had a commander and it wasn't that large of a knife, especially compared to my Striders. What am I missing? blade thickness, handle thickness? And PLEASE lets not turn this into a copy issue this time.

The 630 is a big knife.

I haven't. I need one badly though. I hope they become available to more internet dealers soon.

As far as differences consider the stats on the 630:

Blade Length: 4.30"
Overall Length: 9.70"
Closed Length: 5.50"

compared to the stats of the commander:

Blade: 3.75"
handle: 5"
Overall Length: 8.75"

The blade on the 630 is .55" longer and the 630 is .95" longer overall. So basically the 630 is not quite an inch longer in the opened position. Not a huge difference.
