Any plans of an updated Military?

Spyderco hit the nail on the head with the Paramilitary and Military. As seen in the Paramilitary 2, the original one was not perfect. I feel as if the Military could use an updated version as well. If this were to be reality, I'd like to see: new clip design, tip up/tip down, the new bushing system, a bigger lanyard hole, and the new bigger screws. So in simpler terms do the same thing you did with the Paramilitary 2 to an updated Military!

i have read that a redesign is in the works. it will have a new lock called the "stop lock"

also, IIRC, Sal said that they would not discontinue the original when the 2 comes out.

Indeed. I still can't wrap my head around how the Stop-Lock works. It almost looks like a modified mid-lock.

I'd like to see the Military 2 keep that nice 4mm blade stock. It would be cool to see a proto with an alternate blade grind, maybe something like a high hollow grind with a slightly more reinforced tip (slight swedge on the spine). I can image that this would not happen 1% probability, but it would be interesting to see.

There are several threads at the Spyderco forum on this topic with all the information that's known on this at this time.

Think you could post a few links? Thanks

This is one of the best things about Spyderco, they are ALWAYS improving their designs.

I'm not sure why they arent considering the compression lock for the Millie. It seems to be the logical choice, unless I'm missing something...

what still puzzles me is why they stopped considering the integral compression lock for the tuff ...

for the milie i'd say that this would make it a bigger para2 ... and i'm not sure you can make nested compression lock like the liner lock on the milie. if not this would make the knife heavier and that's not the idea imo.

I'd like to know how far out this thing is, last time Sal talked about it was in '09. I missed out of ALL the sprint Millies so I'll be waiting for the Millie 2. Lets get it going! :D

I would soooo love a Military with the compression lock. Or a larger para.

Basically I have been waiting patiently for a 4" blade(or more) compression lock model. S30V.. VG10.. whatever, its all good!

it looks like it works by moving a little piece of metal between the blade tang and stop pin like a compression lock. But instead of using a piece of the liner that moves off to the side to unlock the blade, it uses a much thicker piece of metal that rotates around the stop pin itself.

here's a more complete version of the patent with more pictures and a description

I hope they use the new lock. I am not the biggest compression lock fan. I like it better than a liner lock, but I think the ball lock is better.
