Any plans on Kydex sheaths for the RC-3 & RC-6?

I love the sheath for my RC-4; it's about as close to perfect as I could ever hope for.

I'm looking at the RC-6 and RC-3, and although I understand the molded plastic sheaths are good, I can't help thinking they'd be a much better prospect with the same style kydex sheath the RC-4 has.

Are there any plans to produce these?

No, not at this time. We are however beginning (note I said beginning) to go down the path of offering an Eagle sheathing for both the RC-3 and RC-6. Mike Perrin is working with Eagle on this now. We had a sample RC-3 sheath that Eagle brought to us at SHOT with a front gear pouch that was a very nice sheath. I think you guys will be impressed with this little sheath.

Interested!

Figured yall might be interested ;)

I really like the sample RC-3 sheath they made for us.

That would be a nice option. I would buy both sheaths for the RC-3. Sometimes I want low profile and other times the Eagle style would be great.

I'm planning on getting a combat master ala Tony for my RC-6 as soon as funds allow.

Would the eagle sheaths be offered mainly through the RATCutlery site or distributors?

I'd seriously like to have an Eagle sheath for both my RC-3 and RC-6. I think the extra sheath would be a great compliment to the molded plastic ones. Leaving the molded sheath attached to molle gear and simply removing the knife and using it with the eagle sheath as a belt knife seems like it would be really convenient! Also, who doesn't like a utility pouch on their sheath?

I don't know the answers to any question right now. All we know is we're in the initial stages of doing this.

Wow! You guys have been keeping busy, haven't you? It'll be great to see what the results of all of these ongoing projects will be.

Can I assume that whatever the final form, the sheath(s) will be MOLLE-compatible?

If so, will they be like the MOLLE backs and have the strap built in, or will we have to use those damn MALICE clips? (PS, I really like that the strap is built in on the MOLLE backs).

The RC-4 sheath is excellent, the RC-3 injection molded sheath is also just fine but the RC-6 needs a nylon sheath with a front gear pouch.

I like the RC-6 sheath...I just wish it was available in green. Tan just doesn't appeal to me as much. That being said a nylon sheath will be pretty sweet!

I just got my RC-6....it's everything I hoped it would be. I have to say that I prefer the Kydex on my RC-4 by a long shot though. I'm just wondering why the change from the Kydex to Plastic? Was it just that it was cheaper to produce? Don't get me wrong...it's still a great sheath for a great knife, but it doesn't have the "wow" factor of the previous sheath quality.

It wasn't really a change from kydex, the RC-4 is the only blade with a kydex sheath.

I like that the RAT's come with a good sheath system. Even if it's not exactly what you want, you have a way to carry it right out of the box. You can always upgrade later.

In reality, the IM sheaths are nice in that they're slim and form fitting, low profile for day to day carry. You can always have a kydex sheath made after the fact for the times when you would prefer them, but you can't have an IM sheath made without the molds.

I might make up a kydex rig for my RC-6, just because a Molle back isn't available yet and I have no desire to carry it concealed, so I want it to ride low.

How much slimmer are the IM sheaths compared to Kydex?

You could always get one made after the fact, but my point was the sheath that comes with the RC-4 is the best example of a kydex sheath I've seen, and it would be nice if they were offered with RAT's other knives, even if just as an extra.

I don't mean to sound like I'm complaining, I just wondered what the reasons might be for not offering a kydex sheath for the rest of the line.

Polymer tends to be a bit more impact resistant in super cold temps. We have a lot of bad weather here. :D

Not trying to sound like a smart ass, but the main reason is we're having enough problems keeping up with current production as it is. Adding more products to the line means more time taken away from current production. I wished it was within our capability to do everything we wanted to do at one time, but it's not. We're actually growing faster than we want at this stage. We will get there, though. ;)

Sounds like a good problem to have in this economy though.
