Any problems sending big knives to the UK?

I've got a big Buck survival knife on ebay. I've got a potential customer who is in the UK. I figure Bill (as well as others here) has to have sold some large knives to customers in the UK. Are there any special problems with laws or customs? Should I agree to sell to this guy if he covers my costs or tell him to go away? I don't want to end up with a knife stuck in UK customs for months, etc.

Thanks,

Gregg

Usually about 2 weeks to get to customer via regular air. Customs is not the fastest and they'll probably hit customer for duty.

Bill, do you avoid sending Raju's (Amtrak's) work to Germany? The last I heard the swastika was still outlawed there.

Find out how your buyer wants the knife listed on the customs form and what price he wants listed. Custom's fees can get pretty steep and this way the customer takes whatever chances he wants since you cannot insure it for more than is listed on the form. You may also want to check and make sure the knife is legal to ship there.

I haven't had any problems with the UK, but a customer got burned big time in Australia once.

Hi,
I live in England, there should be no him problem him getting it delivered ,although as my respected elders have said , he will probably get hit for customs duties, tax etc., but it would be illegal to carry in public area, Homec & garden use only! probably best to describe it as a large Buck knife & forget the word survival, as here customs/police will think its for a potentialy dangerous wannabe Rambo type. {the term fighting knife I wont even mention!}
And if customs dont like a term then its in the lap of the gods!
regards,
Spiral

It's sad that the country that gave us the Sykes-Fairbairn commando dagger now shivers at the mention of a "fighting knife." :(

Amtrak's swastika is backwards to the Nazi version, but most people do not know the difference I am afraid. I have had several people ask me why I had a knife with a swastika on it, a couple in most unfriendly terms. All of that aside, I do love Amtrak's work.

I've got an Amtrak knife and it seems like the nazi swastika goes in the same direction as his. (For the sake of anyone landing on this thread through google, this is a good time to say that nazis are evil. And I think everyone here agrees.) Perhaps he changes it?

The one I have is backwards from the Nazis but I bet Raju does them the other way too. I'm not sure the German government cares about the difference.
