I just got a new Puma Bowie, it arrived at home and I can't wait to go check it out. I understand they now have three lines of knives: Puma (German made/German assembled), Puma IP (German made/Spanish assembled), and Puma SGB (German made/China assembled ). The bowie is Puma, so I didn't mind paying $200 for it.

I'm definitely a fan. My dad used to give me a Puma folder every few years for Christmas. Most of those are gone now because I tried using them as every tool under the sun, which would always result in broken tips. I have one Cadet left that's in mint condition, and I intend to keep it that way to remind me of dad.

There was a time when you could hardly avoid owning a Puma if you hunted and fished. I have a few of the old ones. They were well made, decent knives, but not so good at keeping a sharp edge. I wouldn’t buy a modern one, too many good knives today to spend money on a Puma, and even less at their current prices. But that’s just me.

They always have struck me as weird. Do they work well and hold an edge?

Love the older Puma's knives but not the newer ones. Use to carry a White Hunter every deer season in Northern Michigan, great knife!

My dad hunted a lot, and his choice of folder was Puma. They are an iconic knife for me. It's a bit sad that they are well past the glory days, but I still find the old knives cool.

The first knife I ever bought for myself was a Puma Sportec clip point backlock folder. I got it in a Remington store at my local mall sometime in the late 80's or early 90's. Carried it everywhere with me from my mid-teens through my mid-twentys. DAMN! I just remembered that was in my pocket in my pocket on my wedding day.

I forgot it in a hotel room somewhere in Italy (Venice I think) on my honeymoon. Out of every knife I've owned that I no longer have, that is the only one I truly miss. For nostalgic reasons mostly.
I check Ebay every once in a while for that model, but usually the seller is asking stupid money, or it's beat to hell.
I have some great memories with that knife. Even though it's the only Puma model I've ever owned (or likely will own) the brand still holds a place in my heart.
So, yeah I am absolutely a fan of Puma.

Ok well I opened it, and was a little less than impressed. The handle is very small (my hands are kind of big), and the blade is smaller than I anticipated. I guess the pictures are kind of deceiving. I guess I'm just used to the beefiness of buck knives. But I think I'll keep it for a little while at least, and try it out. Should I get the Puma sharpening block that they recommend?

Never used any Puma branded sharpening stones. Looks like it's the same as any low to mid grade combination stone. Price seems ok. I doubt it'll work any better than most other brands at the same price point.
