Is there any reason to pick one up? It just seems like the new model is substantially inferior to the Kabar, and they are around the same price. Maybe I'm missing something, though? Is there any competition here?
I got one of the SK-5 ones for about $20-25 cheaper than I could find a Kabar anywhere. Seems tough to me but it had a couple fit and finish issues related to the handle. TheLateBoyScout batoned his through a huge knotty log... he also broke a Kabar Heavy Bowie doing the same stuff.
4116 Krupp, I think, is the same steel used in the pocket bushman. If so, then it is some pretty tough stuff. Also the online price for these is more like $50.
I've never had either, so I'm not exactly the best source, but them switching steels ruined it for me. More importantly, they got rid of the flat grind. Blasphemy i say!
