Is there any reason to pick one up? It just seems like the new model is substantially inferior to the Kabar, and they are around the same price. Maybe I'm missing something, though? Is there any competition here?

It just seems like the new model is substantially inferior to the Kabar, and they are around the same price.

I got one of the SK-5 ones for about $20-25 cheaper than I could find a Kabar anywhere. Seems tough to me but it had a couple fit and finish issues related to the handle. TheLateBoyScout batoned his through a huge knotty log... he also broke a Kabar Heavy Bowie doing the same stuff.

I would definitely be interested in the Leatherneck if it was still SK-5, but the $90 MSRP for the new model's 4116 Krupp is kinda ridiculous, IMO.

4116 Krupp, I think, is the same steel used in the pocket bushman. If so, then it is some pretty tough stuff. Also the online price for these is more like $50.

I've never had either, so I'm not exactly the best source, but them switching steels ruined it for me. More importantly, they got rid of the flat grind. Blasphemy i say!
