Hi everyone:

Recently I bough three pieces made by the Spanish company Muela, a Typhoon, a Storm and a Scorpion all of them are decent looking, full thang 7mm, 440 steel.

I am specially interested in the performance of the Scorpion, it has the size of a long bowie and good weight for chopping, but I don't know if anyone has experience with it.

The company seems to have two or three awesome models, like the "Escudero" or the "Gran Duque", very medieval looking. I wonder if they are worth the expense.

Thanks

Hi!

Muela is probably the most important knives brand in Spain right now. They produce a lot of models, not only the classical designs but a new tactical line too.

They are good for the price, the steel is ok, a lot of their designs are very nice and, by my experience, they hold up pretty good after some use and are easily sharpened.

Despite of that, I have yet to find a Muela made for abuse, but for hunting and general use, their fixed are ok.

My favorite brand, specially the old models, is Aitor. They made some of the hardest knives I've seen, like the Aitor Survival made in the 70's and 80's.

wolfer, please, try it and let us know :)

Oh, I almost forgot, this is the offical Muela Knives site, it's a little outdated but you'll find a lot of their models there: http://www.mmuela.com/

Well, many thanks for the links and the welcome Blue Sky and Sanshou.

This weekend I am going to a Sierra a couple of hours away from Mexico City. A national park 20 degrees north lattitude and 2,600 above sea level, quite a nice mountain forest.

I'll give the three pieces a try and let you know about it.

Thanks

Sounds like a great place, some pictures would be nice too...:)

They are common here in New Zealand.A lot of guys use the larger bladed(7 to 9 inches) ones fof pig sticking.I have an 8 inch blade not sure of the model. It has a large guard and the false edge on the spearpoint looks like it could easily be sharpened.Still haven't stuck a pig with it yet.
