I'm only interested in the non assisted opening model. I'm looking for the plain edge version, but serrations won't bother any reviews I'm going to read. Not necessarily requesting in depth reviews either, your opinions are fine. Thanks.

I am interested as well, I like the looks of those scalloped serrations, they look like the would cut clean & be easy to sharpen.

Wish I could add something worth reading, but it looks like we're in the same boat. Carson's knives, especially the M-16s, are famous in these forums for arriving dull and being impossible to sharpen. This one has completely different geometry, though. I hope it's as good as it looks...

i have one of the a/o but i do not like it very much it rides to deep for me and i hate the auto lock that crkt is using. all and all its ok for what it is but i would raither have another junk yard dog 2.

I have one and like it. I removed the auto lawk with no problems. If you are going to buy one get the assisted, as it is very easy to remove and I believe they are the same price. Came a little dull but got her shaving sharp pretty easily. love the blade shape!

The knife is very solid, has a nice heft to it. Action is smooth and you can easily flick the blade open. It feels good in hand. In short, I like it a lot and think it's a solid buy for the money. I got one where the previous owner had removed the auto-LAWKS and AO spring, and that was exactly how I wanted it because in this case such things just muddy up what is one of the classic folder designs.

just got one today. love the blade shape and feel in the hand. the AO is decent and is growing on me but that auto lawks thing has to go!

Ok, I'm going to step out on a limb here and ask, what is wrong with this autolawks that everyone wants to get rid of it? I do not own any CRK&T's, but this feature looks like it would be a great saftey feature and one that would really shore up waht I've read is a spotty liner lock anyway. Someone needs to put me in the know on this one!:D:D:D

I have no problem with the concept of an extra safety lock. I may not prefer them on my knives but they are a legitimate option that folks can use if they feel it provides something for them. It is the automatic engagement of said lock that annoys me. The fact that a manufacturer won't give the consumer the option to use the safety at their discretion, and thereby forces it to be dealt with at all times or else be completely removed, is more than a bit nanny-ish to me. It can give the impression that the manufacturer is not trusting the customers to make their own choice about using the safety.

Also, the automatic nature of the safety can make it harder than it needs to be for folks to disengage the safety and then close the knife one handed. Being able to put two hands on a knife to undo the safety and the liner simultaneously isn't always a viable option, and neither is necessarily keeping an open knife in your hand when you want it to be closed and back in your pocket.

Lastly, you mentioned you've read that the M4's lock was spotty. If you'd be so kind, can you direct me to where you saw this? As an owner of this model I would like to see the information/opinions and judge it for myself against my own experiences with the knife, which have been completely free of any trouble, liner lock included.

Thanks for the insight jugi. I was not talking about the M4 directly, but about CRK&T's in general. I cannot direct you to any certain or paticular post, just an accumulation of things read and remembering that I've read of several people making this comment. Sorry I cannot be more definate.:)

I have the manual M4 and it is the knife I carry at work. Also has the auto lawks and I like the feature. Don't know why I do but I do. My knife came pretty sharp but I reshaprened at a slightly lower angle and it will just about cut a free standing arm hair in half. Not quite but almost. The edge has a terrific bite to it now also. Hey for the 40 bucks or so I paid for it I think well worth it. I like it way way better than my JYDII titanium frame lock folder I just rec. back from warranty repair. Although the service at kershaw is stellar I just don't care for the blade shape. IF it was more of a trad. shape I would probably carry that exclusively.

The M4 though is a winner. One thing I don't like is the cheap ass scales. They could have used something different and maybe sold it for a bit higher price point. Those not withstanding the knife is pretty darn decent for a cheap edc. keepem sharp
