Just picked one up in person without reading to many reviews, Just knowing its a spyderco was enough.

Looked up reviews when I got home and I saw this Here

Anyone experienced this? How could I prevent this?

I usually oil my blades with mineral oil and do it about every 2 weeks.

Thanks guys. I get nervous about this stuff when I get a new knife

Do you own any other knives with a closed back? And do you have rust issues with your current knives? A lot has to do with personal body chemistry as well as general humidity.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Would moisture be trapped there? Possibly, but if you oil your blades and take care of them, I really doubt it's a serious risk. And looking at the pictures in the review, he's also seeing rust on the tang of the blade; I've carried S30V blades as EDCs for a few years now, and I've never had rust issues, even when I'm sweating or in the rain. I simply dry them off, blow some compressed air in the pivot, and lightly oil them.

I had a PM2 with S30V. It started to discolor and light pit on me when daily carrying after limited use. Ended up selling off the PM2 and just deciding S30V wasn't for me as I don't oil my blades often enough and didn't want to worry about it when there's other options. I've had better luck with the corrosion resistance of VG10 from Spyderco for my own use. Take care of it, and it'd be fine, though.

Same here. Never had a S30V blade rust on me and I'm oiling my knives maybe every 1-2 months.

Have a delica and a stretch in vg10 and I have had no rust issues. If those count

What would be the best way to oil the lock bar shown in the photos with rust on it? Just a fine applicator? Not sure if that will be enough.
