Hey all, got off the phone earlier with a great friend who happens to share much of the same musical tastes as myself. He invited me to a concert of sorts this weekend in Madison Wisconsin by a singer named Sam Baker. Sam is touring with Gurf Morlix too, so it shall kick some major butt! (at least in my musical world)

So, are there any fans of Mr's Baker and Morlix? Anybody ever heard of them? Here's a link to his site... quite a fascinating story. www.sambakermusic.com

Anybody else listen to KHYI or WWHP online? I know there are some Texans here, and hopefully one's with the proper kind of musical tastes...;)

I'll post my review of this coming Saturday night's show when I get back on Sunday.

Who the *&%# is Sam Baker?

Ya big lazy jarhead... go to the stinkin' link I put up. You can listen to snippets of his two albums. Also, you should all take a look at his story... pretty remarkable one. He was basically blown up in a terrorist bombing on a train in Peru. He has a mangled up left hand, suffered serious brain damage and other serious injuries. It took over a decade of surgeries and rehab, literally learning how to walk and talk all over again. What is ironic is that the parts of his brain that were damaged were the ones that involve the usage of words. Pretty impressive to relearn everything guitar-wise with opposite hands, write and perform music, etc.

Here I am in my own damn thread... writing most of the responses, only having a Danbo fart to interrupt my musings.

Well, back today from the show last night. I was totally freaked out... this show was held at a place called "Kiki's house of rightous music". Well, this was basically a small house in an older subdivision on the East side of Madison Wisconsin. The show was in her basement!
The opening act was a skinny little dude named Blake Thomas (I think...) He was pretty good, but judging from the songs he wrote and performed... has gotten his heart stomped on a few times.

The "headliners" were Sam Baker and Gurf Morlix. Those of you with any knowledge in music, especially the scene out of Austin, will recognize the name Gurf Morlix. Well, these two basically alternated songs, each accompanying the other on guitar and/or harmony. I accidently became part of the show because I confided to Sam that I was singing one of his songs, in a bastardized version, to my dog while showering one morning last week. (No, not showering WITH the dog ya sickos...) He was amused with my story and included it when he did his little intro for the song. What? Doesn't everyone sing to their dogs in the shower?

All in all, a great evening... alas, I am feeling my age. Due to lack of sleep, I have been totally wiped out today. Heck, in my college years... I'd be drinking again and staying out till 3AM for a second consecutive night. Now... off to bed!
