After being in EMS for 7 years I joined up with a local search & rescue team. Just finishing up a grid search class as I write this. Anyone else involved in SAR?

yup. do that as part of local rescue squad. lots of other fun things as well. hey, do me a favor and look at the post in spyderco forum about different blades for the spot. i want a reverse curved blade, sharp on top with a blunt tip for rescue use. longer description there.

thanks

Not currently, but I did spend about 7 years a SAR team in Northern California about 10 years ago. We were very active on the coast and even were flown to Yosimite a few times. Great skills learned, great times and very rewarding. I would love to do it again someday, but family life takes presidence now. I just checked and there is no real SAR unit in these parts. Oh well. I would recommend it to anyone interested in the camping and survival.

I'm a SAR team member, and in fact I just got back from Alabama after my team was activated for the hurricane season. We're non-jurisdictional and multidiciplined, so we can do that sort of thing. It's a blast, really! I've got awards from the president on my mantle from my activities in SAR, and I have a feeling I'll be getting another one this winter. .

After completing my training, we had a search that same night, tow hikers lost on a mountain. Got initiated real fast!!
