If you're lurking, Terry, are you soon to be taking orders, even if the waiting list might be a bit lengthy? If anyone besides Terry can produce a quality sheath, or if you know of one Terry, please let us know.

I wanted to order a few khukuris, but am holding off until someone in the U.S. can make me a quality sheath, and work on the handle. I was going to have someone in Italy do the work, but as the Italian artisans contacted have never done work for a khukuri, I feel it's best to wait for some pros in the field to be commissioned...

While we're at it, are there any forumites who offer other customization services? I've seen Ferrous' file work on a khukuri buttcap, and I'd like similiar work done on my khukuri. Any woodworkers able to carve some very simple crosshatches in a handle? I know Pen and others can correct blade geometry and properly put a convex edge on the khuk. Anyone known for quality metal engraving?

Thanks!

Dan :)

Hi Dan:

I can do filework, carving of wood, bone, horn, etching, cold bluing, gilding etc. I have made a sheath or two, but they are not a cool as T-dog's magnificent creations (his look modern, mine always look a bit older or "shabbier"). Perhaps you could show some sketches to local leatherworkers, I'm sure they could get the hang of it.

Dr Dan

Whatever happened to the trying to get the Italian leatherworkers to do one up? Were you unsuccessful??

Hollowdweller... I spoke with a shop that specializes in small leather items, and saw some of their sheaths. I wasn't all that impressed, and being that they never made a sheath for a knife like a khukuri, decided that I didn't want to risk having one made that I would probably have to have remade in the U.S. ... Terry Sisco and others have made many sheaths for khukuris, and I can look foward to guaranteed quality even though I might be in for quite a wait.

Sometime ago someone had a "westernized" sheath made for his khuk. I do not remember his name but saved the pic - here

maybe this style is more common for European "sarkis"?
