as the title says i'm looking for a Spyderco with a sharpened top edge. Hoping you guys know a couple models. thanks

he spyderco warrior is the only thing that comes to mind. It is a fixed blade. There is a BF member who has a penchant for waving spydies and sharpening the spine.

In folders, only the very early Worker came with a sharpened swedge but some folks have sharpened the swedge on their Police. In fixed blades, the Warrior has a sharpened and serrated section on the spine.

There are too many people in positions of authority who don't know the difference between a single edged knife with a false edge and a double edged knife. As a result, knives with sharpened swedges/false edges are generally considered to be double edged, and are illegal to carry in many, many jurisdictions. As has been mentioned, only the early C01 Workers among Spyderco folders came from the factory with a false edge. Between mishaps with the false edge and misclassifications as being double edged, the idea was quickly abandoned.

The only folder I am aware of in Spyderco's current line-up that is designed to safely have the swedge sharpened to a false edge is the C07 Police in stainless.

Some people have sharpened the swedge on their Natives and posted pics. I can see why it would be tempting, as the swedge is so thin (at least on older ones), but the false edge is exposed when the knife is closed. IIRC, one person carried his in a sheath.

I put a little false edge on my Chinook 1 way back when after hearing that James Keating had one on his personal EDC. It’s slightly convex and just over 5/8ths of an inch long. When the blade is closed, it's completely covered by the bottom of the handle.

It’s not very sharp, but it can cut things like tape easily. I think Keating was probably interested in tactical applications, but it also works well for utility purposes. For instance, when you make a box-cutting type cut or want to put pressure on the point, you can just turn over the blade; you don’t have to awkwardly arch your wrist and arm to cut with the true edge.

There is that up-coming Szabo folder, which sorta reminds me of the D/E Police I had. I'd like to get a pair of em and give em the nasty mods. All Spyderco balisongs can be D/E'd of course. For all other folders, it depends... is it worth it to you for me to grind off everything that sits outside the handle when closed? If you want it Charlie Mike'd, you know how to reach me.

A sign that you have reached Bladeforums legend status is when you use you your screen name as a verb. Well, that and almost 12,000 posts.

Take care -

Can I use this as a sig line? I'm tempted to paste it in there but I don't know if it will fit.

Yeah, the Szabo really seems it would do well with a sharpened swedge. Concerning fixed blades, other than the Warrior, there are several knives that probably could have the top edge sharpened in post production. The Street Beat for an example.
