I was thinking about doing some, there's 2 clubs within easy reach of me. I'm looking at the cost of equipment, though-is there a place to get reasonable leather and a pistol? also, how long a barrel do you like? For me, I love revolvers anyway, so a 4" barrel seems right. The only thing I'm running into probles with is the caliber. 44, or 45 long colt seems a little heavy (and expensive). How are the .357s? Does anybody make them in .38? thanks for your help!

I played around at the mounted shooting; there are two good sized groups here in AZ the one that interested me the most was the one where you DID NOT have to dress up like some movie extra. Was a lot of fun but just didn’t have time to get serious with it, that and my main horse really doesn’t like this sport at all. Never messed around with the other SASS stuff. If you’re shooting the steel targets, most of the top guys seem to dropping down to 38s for more controllability and faster follow up shots. For pistols I would only get a Ruger, other than that sky is the limit on gear, about like every other hobby.

I have two Ruger Vaqueros and a circle KB holster

Man, pretty horse. How'd you de-senitize him to the noise? Mounted shooting is the thing I am most looking to do, I'm afraid of deafening my horse, though..Or getting thrown. I was looking, it doesn't seem that many guns are offered in .38. I know what you mean about dressing up. I guess that it would be fun, but I'm not looking to invest another bunch of money in clothes, saddle, etc.

How we did it was started off with just primers in the blank cases. The foam thingys in the pic with the pistols is earplugs for the horse.

We were in a medium arena and a friend had his horse in there that is used to it. He was on the inside going around and my horse was on the out side while the guy was shooting primers. Then we moved up to full power black powder loads..

On thing you can do is get a real cheap 22 revolvers and use nail gun blanks to practice. The nail gun blank come in 4 power levels so you can start off mild but you have to be real close to the balloons.

My horse was doing real well until I shot a balloon way out in front instead of the side. The balloon blowing up pretty much in the horses face didn’t go over to well

The horse is a registered appy mare, thx for the compliment.

I thought so by the mane, but since i couldn't look under her..:D

Earplugs are genius. The few times I've shot w/o protection, well, It didn't do me any good.
