Can all of you SOG Bowie users tell me how your knife is performing. I've got one that's been sitting unused and forgotten for about 15 years. It still looks beautiful, but I'm thinking of making it a user. Also, I know that some people in the forums use knives to hunt boar. Has anyone used a SOG Bowie to do so? Thanks in advance for any replies.

I have one that i use and one NIB, the user has most of the blueing off of the butt cap and the cap is also loose. the blade is in ok shape no rust. it holds a good edge and a great user. more of a hard duty than a skiner, i wouldnt skin anything with it because of the oil and blueing tainting the meat. I use a clean junk knife to skin mostly becuase i dont want to get gunk on my nice knives.

I've used mine plenty.... one of my favorites, and always goes with me when I'm pig hunting.
I've not used mine with the intention of killing a pig, I'm of the opinion the blade is too short. I'd use my SOG SEAL 2000 or Recon Bowie instead. Maybe if it was a small-size pig I'd consider the Bowie.

One day I used my Bowie to cut up some cantaloupe and honeydew melon, and whatever acid is in those ate the bluing right off the blade !!! I couldn't believe it.
So I now occasionally use some Birchwood-Casey gun-blue to help protect it from rust.

Cheers,

Carl

p.s. in storage for how long ?? unused ?? oh my, I would call that a crime against nature !!

I have a SOG Bowie S1, it is the best knife i have , the most used knife
i own . It has been used for a camp knife , choped wood , cut meat , opened
tins etc . The only thing i have not done is hunt boar in the UK you dont get lots of boar so i cant say if its any good or not . The S1 is a OUTSTANDING knife so use it dont forget it for the next 15 years that would be a sin .

Thanks for the replies everyone. Yep, it has sat unused for about 15 years. It got packed up and forgotten during a couple of moves to new residences. It will now finally get put into service. By the way, I need to get a sheath for it since I'm left handed. Any suggestuions? Thanks in advance for any replies.

There are quite a few sheath makers out there, among them our own WildmanH...:D
