I'd like to hear your impressions of the current situation in the country before volunteering to possibly take a trip to the "other" sandbox. How about the actual level of danger? Given the choice, would you go there again? Did you do it for the money above all else?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hey,
I'm not a soldier and I probably cannot offer you the answers that you are looking for.. But since nobody seems to be responding, I will tell you about my neighbor.

He is a Marine and was shot in the leg during an ambush a few months ago. He's back now, and doing alot better. He has a slight limp, but that may go away.

So I would think as early as a few months ago that it was not a safe place at all if armed Marine patrols are being ambushed. What the situation there is today I don't know.

QS,

I have not deployed (yet) to Afganistan, but spent nearly 6 months in Iraq. I assume this is the "other" sandbox you are referring to.

Surely, you are jesting when you ask if we do it for the "money". I go where my Commanding Officers direct me to go.

While I can't comment on the level of danger in Afganistan, I can tell you that outside of the "Sunni Triangle", Iraq is mostly with the US.
