Any special precautions for grinding G10?

I like to make sporting knives with exotic woods but for hard use I sometimes make knives with Micarta. I use G10 on occasion for liners but have not ground G10 scales. Is the stuff really bad for your lungs? Worse than Micarta? I refuse to use carbon fiber any more because of the fine dust that gets everywhere. Any comments welcomed. Larry

I treat it like carbon fiber, though it's not quite so bad. It grinds really easy and finishes nice, easily my favorite composite. But definitely you don't want to breathe it and the dust hangs in the air. When hand sanding, I do it wet and that kills the dust nicely.

I used to hate it and recently added a wet grinding option to my setup and it's made a world of a difference. There's a recent thread (last month or so) about wet grinding setups. I copied the ball valve from a hung bucket to a sponge setup and LOVE it. Easy, cheap, and works great. No more dust and no more burning g10 or especially micarta. I highly recommend looking into a wet setup for g10.

I dont use much of it "for some reason I tend to have a lot of nice wood around" But it is NASTY stuff. Phenolics and glass fibers are both things you want far away from your lungs. I use a full face powered respirator, but long sleeves and a respirator are a must, a face shield is highly recommended.

long sleeves, full face respirator. I also use a drip system (use it for post heat treat grinding of steel as well) consisting of an IV bag and sponge.

Hi Guys, sorry to dredge up an old thread but can someone point me in the direction of information for making wet grinding setups for G10 and so forth? I work in a smallish space and I cannot open the garage door and blow the bad stuff out because the neighbours are fairly close and I fear they might catch some of it. Seems like a wet setup might be good for a number of reasons.
Thanks.
Mike

Thank you very much Mr Mcpherson. I guess I should have dug a bit more...;)
Much appreciated.
