Any special suggestions on an ESEE 4?

I've been a happy RAT owner for a while now. I purchased an RC-3 a few years ago and love it. If all goes well, I'll get my first ESEE next week (trade pending) an orange ESEE-4. I'm super excited about getting it! I've done lots of reading here and I appreciate seeing everybody's differences in taste. Some are happy with the standard options, others added the 5/6 pouch. A few of you have upgraded to custom sheaths completely. So for a newbie, what would you suggest? I like the idea of using the pouch to carry a small psk but with the pouch not being specifically made for the 4, would you go with a smaller pouch? I'd love to hear your opinions.

i think you should try out the factory sheath and see how you like it. if you dont care for it you can easily get a custom sheath made.

I'd definately try out the factory sheath, it's a great sheath. If you get the molle back too there's little room for improvement as far as I can tell. It's kydex, has a drainage hole, has three ways of securing the knife in the sheath (including the sheath itself), plenty of attachment points so you can wear it pretty much however you like or attach things to it. Unless you like leather sheaths I don't see any real reason to get a different one.

As for pouches, well I don't have a pouch on mine so I'm not much help there but if you want to put one on I think the ESEE-5/6 pouch fits fairly well on the 4's sheath (I don't have one though so don't go by me).

I have a RC-4 with the molle back sheath. I love it! I havent added anything to what was sent standard. I can attach it to my pack or my belt, or just use some paracord for a belt loop. Anyway, I agree with the others, try it out with what come standard first, and then make adjustments if you need to.

Yeha, I must agree here. The molle back sheath is a great way to go. If you decide that a custom sheath is in order, I would very highly recommend looking for sheaths by Glockcrazz and his site is bayoucustomsheaths.com.

i don't have a 4 yet, but i am a fan or the option of being able to easily add the pouch to store kit.

ESSE 4 with stock sheath and a 5/6 pouch seems to be a really easy way to do thhat. you can also bolt on a firesteel loop. pistol mag pouches can also be rigged to the sheath.

other people don't see the need for any kind of extra gear on the sheath. to each their own.

if you want a custom sheath, those are available, but many of the customs don't seem to be as well suited to adding a pouch.

stock kydex for the 4 is very nice.
I also vote for the molle back.
