First time poster. To any forum that is. Forgive me if I am clumsy. I am well experienced with knives. Carried from a very young 13 YO to my present 39.Every day. My EDCs for the last few years have been Spyderco. Love em. I decided I really would like something a bit more for various reason. If researched and drooled over many names but finally decided on a Strider SMF with spear point/ G10 in ranger green. All the places I referenced gave superbe reviews raving and you know. Very little bad, if at all. I am super exited and it is arriving in a couple of days. My question. Does anyone know of any inherent issues I may have missed. What to be careful of. I know about the size and weight of the thing and know not to deify it only to have my expectations let down. Yes I am aware of Mic's controversy too. Don't care.Just any stories/personal issues with the knife itself. Thank you.

They take awhile to break in and I guess the owner of the company has been accused of exaggerating his military service if that means anything to you.

Don't give up on breaking the knife in though, it will eventually become very smooth.

If you're very used to Spyderco's, you'll probably be appalled with how bad a strider cuts out of the box in comparison. IMO unless you're abusing it they NEED a re-profiling.

Yeah enjoy breaking in your SMF after thousands of cycles opening and closing it. You now are the proud owner of completely prematurely worn out folder with blade play and destroyed detent because of terrible tolerances. I chose not to "break in" my SNG and I think its better to just live with the stiff opening rather than trash a brand new knife just so it gets smooth. Other than that I dont really have any gripes. Its a beast of a knife and it just oozes coolness but dont expect to be getting an all around perfect knife.

With all due respect, for a fraction more you can get an truly amazing custom knife. Do some research and save yourself from having to sell and re-purchase. I always had problems of one sort or another with Striders...never again.

I bought one that came butter-knife dull with unevenly ground bevels. I got issued another one with perfect edges, sharp enough to cleanly shave arm hair.

Obviously they've got some QC issues, but I'm quite happy with the one I was issued (especially since it was free.)

I'm sorry, did I say "wear the knife out"? I was sure I said "Break it in"...

My bad...:)
