A friend of mine is looking for his (at this time) perfect edc. He's already got a Buck or two and a CRKT m16 but he want's something a little different.

He's looking for the following:

1) Flipper if possible
2) assisted
3) 3 inches or around 3 inches bladelength
4) <$100

Please post a picture with each suggestion so that I can simply show him this thread and have it all in one place.

BTW. He's not that big of a knifenut and expensive steels don't really interest him. Just something decent, Aus8, 440c or b, sandvik or similar will do fine.

How about a Kershaw OD-1? It's not an assisted opener, but I'm not sure he'd notice if you didn't tell him. It has a system in place that makes it open just as quickly as any Speedsafe knife I've seen.

Kershaw Blur. No flipper but the thumb studs are designed very well. The Blur is available with a premium steel for under $100.

Tom

Kershaw Blur
No flipper but it is assisted

The Kershaw G10 Tyrade is my favorite flipper right now. Its assisted, around 3 5/8 inches and you can find them for around $80. Rock solid liner lock, 154CM and D2 edge. Several colors to choose from. Overall I love it. Give it a look.

Just get a Leek. It's a classic and it makes for a great EDC.

I 2nd that. The CB Leek pops into mind.

Buck Vantage Pro

Not an assisted opener but has a flipper that works well. It has G10 and S30V and goes for about $45. If he doesn't care about the steel he can get the Vantage Avid with Sandvik steel and save about 12 bucks. It has a nice thin hollow grind that makes for one heck of a slicer. And it's made in the USA which is a big plus for some.

What they said. I'm partial to the RAM myself but
any of the mentioned would be great.

I wish they made those with a sub 3" blade. I would be all over that.

I don't why people are posting so many knives that don't meet the posted requirements, especially considering that this is such an easy set to fulfill.

80% of the Kershaw lineup has everything that you want, just go to their website and have a look.

Because if we recommended exactly what he asked for you would get 80% of kershaw's website.

If a knife is a great knife and meets most of the requirements but has a flipper that is just as fast as an AO why not mention it? One person could have said 'go look at the kershaw website' but that would be a pretty boring thread.

It's pretty silly when people suggest Sebenzas and Striders or a knife that is not even close to the requirements but most have been pretty close in this thread.

There's some good suggestions here. Keep em coming. He told me that he subscribed to this forum recently so he'll probably be along to check this thread out sometime.

Hey everybody, you guys are absolutely wonderful, thanks so much for the great suggestions! One thing has become clear for me from reading the above: you can't really go wrong with Kershaw. I'll order the Leek (slick design) and the RAM (location of clip, making near concealment possible) for now. Knowing myself i will probably end up buying them all). Thanks again!!! Tim

With the exception of the Buck Vantage Pro, every single suggestion has been a Kershaw, even the ones that don't meet the criteria ;)

I was going to recommend a damascus Leek with black handle, but I see you've already decided. I'm sure you will do very well with the Leek and / or R.A.M. as a "perfect" EDC
