Hey I'm new to bladeforums, seems like a pretty decent site lots of cool information. For about six years i cared a 3 in. CRKT M-16 EDC Tanto Bladed folder, loved that knife, always served me very well. I recently lost that blade (stupid me forgot to take it out of my pocket when i went to a concert and i had it confiscated :() so i'm looking for a new blade... I really liked the M-16 and it's still available through CRKT however i thought i'd have a look around first and see what people thought and if they had any other recommendations....

What I'm looking for
3"-4"
folding
MUST BE EDC (I DON'T WANT SOMETHING THAT LOOKS PRETTY I NEED A KNIFE THAT IS DURABLE AND CAN TAKE A BEATING)
I prefer Tanto but will consider a drop point
Fine/Serated combo
Belt/Pocket clip
LAWK System is preferred

looking between 50.00-75.00 really don't want to go any more than that

There are literally dozens of excellent choices in this price range. Start with the spyderco delica/endura, or the benchmade griptillian series. Just my opinion, but also scrap the tanto and partially serrated blade for an edc knife. The tanto blade shape isn't really overly useful unless you absolutely need the utmost strength at the tip, and partially serrated blades do not give you enough of either edge type to be beneficial. Essentially they are the worst of both worlds. The LAWKS system is only going to be found on crkt knives and is basically a gimmick, skip LAWKS and go for something tried and true like a benchmade axis lock or spyderco back lock.

If you like assisted opening and flippers, Kershaw has a bunch of knives that you'll like, all of them under $75. A lot of them are tantos that come in combo edges. (I agree with the guy above me and prefer plain edges and drop/clip points, too, but who am I to tell you what to like?)

The top two are my personal favorites, the bottom three are the ones you'll probably find most interesting. Look them up. And here's the full Kershaw catalog, in case you're interested.
-Piston (My favorite. Probably not yours.)
-Knockout (Second favorite.)
-Brawler (tanto)
-RJI and RJII (tanto&serrations)(I like the looks of these. I'm not real crazy about the other two, to be honest.)
-Kuro (tanto&serrations)

For LAWKS you need to stay with CRKT... for something really strong, look at Cold Steel's voyager lineup. Not a huge fan of partial serrations here but if it's what you want... personally I'd like full or none. You might be able to get a Manix2 for $75 online if you look around a bit. The newer ones are S30V.

Welcome to Bladeforums.

Personally I'd go for Spyderco, but there's lots of good folders out there. I like some of the Boker Plus range too. I'd also ditch the tanto point for EDC. Hope you find something you're happy with, you'll get lots of good advice here :)

thanks for the suggestions i'll look into them... as far as the combo blades go i can see your points fairly, i suppose for me its just i've ALWAYS had a combo? not really sure... but once again thanks for the suggestions i'll look into it!!!

Also if you are up for a challenge i'm looking for a good fixed blade for hunting preferably with a gut hook! i really don't have as detailed a request list as i did for my edc folder but just looking at some other peoples favorites...! :)

If you liked the M16, maybe try an M21. No tanto versions, as far as I know anyway, but a sturdy knife. A buddy of mine has an aluminum frame variant.
