I've enjoyed fishing very much for the past 3-4 years, but haven't had much time to go until now. Freshwater fishing sucks in my local area, so the other option is to fish of the surf. I suppose this doesn't apply to most people, as only people near the coast can surf fish, but if you do please post a reply!

Pics of some fish you can catch off the surf:

I surf fish in the surfcasting capital of the world.
Montauk NY

I fish alone, often after dark so there aren't many photos
But there is this one

I love it. I have a beach driving permit, we'll find a spot to ourselves and spend the day and night out there. Sharks, redfish, flounder, speck trout, sand trout, whiting, and pompano are usually what we catch.

Lol. Me and a buddy were cruising down the beach one afternoon. There were two couples out swimming in an area where the water is usually very, very clear. We could see several balcktips about 50 yards from them. We got both got out, threw on them, and hooked two within a minute of each other. Needless to say, they got out of the water and left. I've only heard of one attack along this stretch, and that was almost twenty years ago. The guy had cut bait in his cargo pocket and got tagged in the leg. He lived, but lost his leg. I'll swim out there, during the day.

Cool pics. We can catch leopard sharks and bat rays off the southern california coast but I only have a light rig right now and can't cast far enough.

Most of the beaches in LA county start filling up with people around 10:00 AM or so, so I can fish early morning.

I spend most of my time in my kayak, but do a bit of surf casting and live baiting when I can't get out. The snook bite is on right now, so we were fishing live mullet in front of my house today, but the swell is massive right now and it was stormy. Maybe tomorrow. Guys have been yanking 30-40 pounders out left and right.

Here's a couple if pulled out of the surf recently.

Not catching any sharks here, but check the toofies on this snapper we speared. Pretty sure he's a meat eater. ;-)

I surf fish on the Washington state coast a few times a year. Mostly just surf perch with an occasional flounder or even a crab that won't let go. Just this past weekend I was at the coast and caught a few perch and this little guy

I recently got a kayak though so I am working on fishing past the surf too.

I LOVE to surf fish! My preferences are fly fishing in the mountains of North Carolina where I am always looking for secret places to catch wild trout, OR surf fishing on the NC coast for specks and redfish, usually in the area around Southport NC. Attached is me with my citation redfish caught (and released!) on live finger mullet in the surf last October on the East beach at Bald Head Island.
