Gang- For years, all I would buy is a plain edge knife. BUT, after thinking about how well my K5 Spyderco kitchen knife works, I ordered a UK Serrated Drop Point. I do believe I'm going to like the switch up. Anyone else like that Spyder serrated edge?

I have been really considering buying a serrated Hawkbill from Spyderco. I really don't like serrations, mainly the look. But I thought I would give one a try for the fun of not really needing to sharpen much.

I strongly favor a plain edge configuration, and all the knives in my carry rotation are plain edge with the exception of my two serrated hawkbills, the Crossbill and subsequent Tasman Salt. I still strongly prefer a plain edge, but these two knives have given me respect for a serrated edge and I would likely get rid of other, more expensive knives before getting rid of the Tasman Salt.

don't like serrated knives for much. Cutting ropes and seatbelts, cutting through other fibrous materials. But a really sharp plain edge will cut any of those materials well enough, or even extremely well.

I like them. Just got a Salt 1 and a Matriarch 2. They do leave raggedy edges when you cut things, but if you can live with that they work well for most things and excel at some. You just need to use a slightly different technique than you would with a plain edge.

Thanks guys.
I really don't cut that much stuff but when I do, the serrated edge blows right through it. Plus, I don't have to sharpen as often. AND, I just realized, with the serrated blade, I'm getting a Spyderco with a chisel ground edge... kinda. :D

Lol, eehhh sorry. ;)

I hope Sal finds it in his heart to make a small run of fully serrated Para2s. It would be excellent.

I've been eager to try more FS blades (particularly Spydercos) after having and using my FS H1 Ladybug for a spell now. I used to loath Serrated blades but after using the ladybug I've learned to appreciate them for what they are capable of. Right now I'm looking at going in slow and purchasing a fully serrated Tenacious.

Do it. ^
I had my K5 for over 10 years and it still has not been sharpened.

I think serrations are preferable if you know how to keep them sharp; which I don't. My few serrated knives are carry knives, but not users.

I find that a lot of people prefer a plain edge and I can't say that I blame them. Most of my knives are plain edge but I like to keep a few combo edge blades on me just incase a situation would call for serrations. Actually considering buying a fully serrated spyderco just for this purpose.

I've spent a lot of time with a plain edge in one pocket and fully serrated edge in the other. The serrated blades hold a functional working edge for a lot longer in media I use them for, mostly paper, cardboard, stretchwrap and plastic banding. My experience is mainly with ATS-55. I do want to try something serrated in H1 where the difference should be even more dramatic.

Thanks guys.
As long as the edge is sharp, they all work.
I was carrying a Sodbuster Jr, as my work knife but I believe my UK is going to replace it.

I carry a few serrated options everywhere I go that does not have metal detectors... I just went into the local City Hall (next major town to the East of my hometown) and had to take a trip back out to the vehicle to drop off my EDC system, including my keychains. Walked back inside and found one more small fixed blade in a pocket I forgotten. The very nice policeman said he would just check it in and give it back when I finished renewing my concealed carry permit. :)
