Any thicker handles (or liners) for BK7 and big hands?

As much as I like the BK7, I can tell the handles are a little too thin for my hand grip. I'm 6' 7" with an XXL hand size (extra long fingers). Had a chance to try the BK2 today at local store, and the extra 1/16" of an inch because of the tang made the grip better in my hands.

I know I could use hockey tape, but I really want scales that are a bigger size. I contacted The Knife Connection, and they said their G10 scales are actually a little thinner. I've emailed 710 custom sheaths, but I haven't heard back yet.

Any suggestions for replacement handles that are definitely thicker? Are the Ka-Bar/Becker factory micarta replacement scales thicker? Even thick liners would work. I'm happy with the material of the Grivory scales, so liners would be fine. If I had my choice, I would go with micarta or G10 over wood.

Note: Probably best to avoid making my own due lack of skills and tools. Plus, I'm thinking might get my brother a BK7 for his birthday this spring. He's my size and would have the same problem, and I'd rather not give him my frankenstein homemade solution. :)

raistlin65 hello, I had tommythewho make me three custom handles for my BK7 and BK2, they are beyond your expectations good. You can find him on Ebay, do the search engine on : bk2 thru 12 . Use the contact seller option (tmil2009) once you find what you're looking for, as so he can make you thicker handles. I'm positive he will deliver. Best of luck to you. MJ

The Ka-Bar micharta is a little thicker. Liners are easy to make from anything made of plastic. I've seen DVD/cideo games boxes and laundry soap jugs among other things.

Thanks. I found him. His handles do look nice, but looks like he works with wood. I'd rather have G10 or Micarta. I'll keep him in mind if nothing else works.

Contact MrN8, he used to make liners. He can probably give you pointers.

That's good to hear that the Ka-Bar micarta are a little thicker. That's probably worth a try since I can always return them.

Making them is probably not the best choice for me. I'm not that handy and lack the tools. If someone is already making them, that would be the better route for me :)

I'm actually surprised that Ka-Bar/Becker doesn't sell them. It would be very cheap for them to mass produce a bunch and make some money off of them. There have to be many people that would like the thickness of the grip of the BK2 with the other large Beckers.

Julio at www.the710customsheaths.com does amazing handles too! And sheaths (of course)

Yeah. I've looked at his website and found people here that have bought them. Nice products! I'm hoping he'll get back to me.

Sorry man, I completely missed that. They are super grippy, which is nice, but wouldnt help them not filling out your hand enough. Check out Kryptoglow on the auction site that shall not be named. He does glow liners.

That's OK. No need to apologize. I really appreciate the effort to help :)

Found him Although looking through his feedback, seems like his glow in the dark liners might cost as much as Becker's micarta scales or 710's custom scales. I'll save him as a later option :)

Liners are what you want, and can be easily removed if you don't like them. AND they should work under the factory micarta too, if you get that later. For a huge fella like yourself I'd recommend liners AND micarta. But someone around here will be able to make you some for a reasonable fee. Hang out for a day or so and you'll prolly get a PM. A BK-7 accessorized like that would be sweet. Especially if you ground off the ramp. ;)
