Any thoughts on Condor Amalgam Machete?

Looks like a good ~12" machete if you like the shape. For the short chopper machetes, I favor the Condor Pack Golok for mostly chopping. Machete choice depends on what you are planning on using it for primarily.

Clearing branches and brush.... I think the 16" Condor Swampmaster would be a good choice. It is a fairly rigid machete and the "hook" is useful for pushing or pulling stuff.

Added: It is hard to beat a standard latin shape and the 18" wood handled Condor El Salavado is one of my favorites. It has thinner steel then the above ones, but is still rigid enough for branches and small trees. It is certainly more useful cutting briars and vines or "weeds" in general than the heavier type machetes.

Thank you for the reply! Although I find the look of the Amalgam more pleasing, I think I'm going to go with one of your suggestions, the Swamp Master.

I wouldn't really call the Amalgam a machete per se, so much as a chopper. Choppers are sort of their own category.

I don't care for the look of the design, but I'm sure it'd work well enough. I just prefer a very different style of blade for the kinds of tasks that one seems to be tailored for.

It'll be used in a the woods to clear brush.

For brush, rather than wood work, I tend toward lighter, thinner, faster blades.

This is an excellent suggestion. Machetes with the "hook" are nice because light, easily moved vegetation can't slide off the edge.

That said, on light brush, I've been amazed at the utility of a basic 18" latin machete from Tramonita. I realize it's not in the same league of fit/finish as the more expensive Condor, but mine has held up through 5 yrs of loads of use as a tool rather than babied like my more favored knives.
