any thoughts on the kershaw rake?

I like mine. I can't say I carry it a lot, but it's a very nice knife. It locks up solid, speedsafe is very quick, handle is pretty comfortable, and it rides pretty good in the pocket. Mine did have a problem with rusting on the D2 surface, and the beadblasted spine get's rust spots pretty easily as well (like most Kershaw's with beadblasted blades). But with proper care it can be avoided.

I've had mine for about a month now. Got it from kershawguy. I wanted to try out some D2 plus the nice belly sweep caught my eye. I have carried and used almost daily. It's currently bumped my SnG and Bradley Alias 1. Very well put together, solid lock up and the composite concept is very impressive. Very sharp on receipt, holds an edge well and contrary to what I've heard about D2, it sharpens easily and I have not had any brittleness issues. No rusting issues so far. Speed Safe works well. It was a bit sluggish in the beginning but has smoothed out over the weeks. For $59.00 bucks shipped, I think you will be well served.

Get one, you won't regret it. I absolutely love the big belly on the blade.

If by some slight chance you get one and don't like it. Send it to me, I'll give it a good home! :D

I have one. It's one of my favorite knifes. Love the sweep of the blade and handle ergos. If you don't like it, I think it would be pretty easy to sell or trade.

ya i may just get it. ive heard good things about the edge retention on d2, thats why i want it.

It might just be me, but I've never cared too much for the CB models or D2 steel. I've always preferred the S30V to D2 (though looking forward to getting the 0200 with the 154CM to see how that compares to the S30V of the rest of the ZT). I tend to think of the 1780CB as more of a tool, meaning I'd only get it if I had a need for it, not just to add to my collection.

i just got it. i really like it. the speedsafe is slower than all my other speed safe knives, and the torsion bar feels weaker, bad torsion bar or is this normal?

Common with a larger heavier blade. It's like feeling the difference in the 1660 and 1840 when they open. So long as it locks the blade into place nice and strong, the speed that it pops open is not too important. Besides, if it opens to fast, that heavy blade will be more likely to flip right out of your hand (why I don't care for the Tilt too much).

You can also give a slight flick in the wrist on deploying to speed things up. Mine as I said, was sluggish but has since smoothed up and quickened.

ya that does help it. the torsion bar releases the blade much closer to lockup too tho. if that makes sense. it almost guides it the whole way to lockup instead of half way like most speedsafe knives.

I really tried to like that knife. I found one and bought it, and it fit my hand all wrong. The handle is a tad too small and a bit uncomfortable for me. It's one of those things that the minute you hold it, you think,"nope, this is not going to work out". I love the design and blade shape, if the handle was better designed, it would be a better fit for me.

no i got mine at this little hole in the wall store in my city. they had butterfly knives and stuff in there too. lol.
