Any thoughts on the Vic Alpineer?

The Rambler on my keychain has all the tools I usually need except a corkscrew and large blade, so I'm getting an Alpineer. It has a honkin' big locking blade and a corkscrew. Any comments? How secure is the locking mechanism?

I have a few SAKs with the same locking mechanism, they never failed on me and feel secure enough.

I've had a SAK Adventurer since around 1992. It's been used hard and the lock's still rock solid.

The Alpineer came yesterday. It seems very sturdy with great fit and finish, and it feels good in the hand. The blade is 3-1/8", not counting the tang, so it may be illegal for pocket carry in some states, but not in North Carolina (if my understanding of the law is correct).

Glad to hear it, L. Richard. I think you'll get years of great use out of it.

Here's a pic of my trusty old Adventurer. As I wrote before, still locks up wonderfully ...

That looks really good for an older knife that's been used hard.
