I've never owned a locking sak...How is the lock???is there any play between the blade and handle?? (even a little bit bothers me) any overall thoughts are welcome thanks

I have a rucksack (locking sak). There's zero blade play, even less then all other folders I have. Don't know the locking mech tho.

the blade still has the spring behind it like any other non-locking sak so if you're gonna avoid up and down play with any knife, it'll be a vic. i've never had side to side play on a sak.

I own 2 locking vics, trekker and rucksack both lock up tight and have 0 blade play.

One of the reasons I'm so impressed with Victorinox is fit and finish, and the strenght of their constrution, there blades seem to stay tight long after most traditonal slippies develope wobble.

I have an outrider, no play but I prefer the liner lock to the slide/button lock.
Just a matter of preference really.

I've had the same model (rucksack) for about 4-5 years now. This is the one that goes with me into the bush as a back up. This knife still "walks n' talks", or, snaps open soilidly, has no blade play and as was said, it locks. This is my favourite SAK. Absolutely usefull in city or country. Police eyes don't bulge when they see it either.

Hey Guys...

RR....

It's an Awesome knife..
I've had my Outrider for several years now, and is one of my favorite SAKS..

However I just ordered a Hercules,, and it may retire my Outrider..

I also have 3 RUK SAKS..

The locks on them are Ecellent,,I like it better than the liner lock (no offence Liam)

Get it or the Hercules....

I got an Outrider last summer. I wanted a locking version of my old trusty Huntsman, and this is basically it. I really like it, but I find that I don't use it much - I almost always reach for my Spirit multool as an edc. The Outrider is destined to go into a pack as a backup, I think.

i also wanted a locking version of huntsman.
While it is, it is also a lot thicker and a little uncomfortable for me. I wear medium gloves. I suspect the rucksack with one less layer is a better compromise, at least for me (and cheaper). If you really want the scissors, add a classic.

The Outrider was my EDC and outdoor camping knife for many years. It is a great knife if you are not practicing bushcraft skills. And, if I were lost, it would make a pretty good survival tool with the longer saw (compared to the shorter non-locking SAK).

I find the SAK a lot more comfortable to use than the Leatherman, especially if using the saw to build a shelter which requires long term handling. I find the Leatherman too thick and uncomfortable cutting for longer than a minute.

My new knife, like Normack, is the Hercules. I find the pliers small but really useful and easy to use.
