I've been contemplating sending a SHBM in to Busse for some custom shop lovin....but it would have to be a user I could find or one of my few remaining "new" CG's. I'd be sending her in for a clip point grind with a rounded spine, a birds beak pommel, Orange G-10 hand shaped scales, and a clean satin finish with the dimples ground off. Any thoughts? Am I nuts for wanting to fix something that ain't broken? :p Any input on anything else I might have missed? Maybe a zero edge? Or a swedge grind?

I can't do it to my slotted screw user as it's perfect the way it is...I couldn't possibly change it as the scales are the most comforable out of the large number of Busse's I've had (which if you've seen my past posts is considerable for a relative newbie :p). They're the slimmest I've ever seen on a SHBM which on this particular knife is very desirable. Plus it shaves my grizzly bear back like a dream, so hopefully that grosses out any potential INFI poachers :p.

It would also match my OJ Warden which is always with me and my SHBM....Can't hurt to have 2 big blade users....2 different flavors :D. I really liked your SHSH varient with the clip point and the rounded spine....I've been wanting one ever since holding yours. The SHBM will suffice though :D.

Hopefully the SHBM would be done at the end of the semester...my personal reward for getting through a grueling 17 units and 44 hour work weeks :p.

It sure would look awesome when it got home, the orange scales would be very unique

I would just order a custom shop SHBM with all the details that you want.

Personally, I would leave the original SHBMs as they are. :)

Paul,
That sounds great however, I say MAKE YOURSELF HAPPY! We only go round once! Oh, and please post pics when she is done, we want to live vicariously through her!!!! Scott

My kids don't always turn out the way I want, my wife doesn't always do what I want, my truck isn't big enough, my shop doesn't have the amount of tools I want....................... but my knives are going to be exactly how I want them.;):D I end up modding all my blades to suit me, so I say "Go for it"! Good luck, and post pics.

It's always best to get what you want:

The edge is thinned, the blade is satined, the plunge cut is radiused and it's all mine.

Busse didn't do it but I don't care.

I'd like to leave them be, I'll ask if I can order a custom shop SHBM....I was under the impression I couldn't order discontinued knives though. I'll ask to cover my bases :D

Sweet knife! Looks GREAT! Ban did a clean job!

That would be good, I'm either considering that or thinner scales. I've been liking thinner scales more and more. The feel.....I dunno, CHOPPIER? :p

My Advice would be to get a "Ganza" SHBM and Modify that, leaving the Originals factory Stock.

I believe that would make the least change in value.

On the other hand, change all the Originals that you possibly can and all my Originals will become more rare and go up in Value.

Honestly...keep the old ones pristine. Then, as long as you have more than one CG, send it in for the upgrade. When it gets back, 'experience' it for awhile and see if you love it.

Then you can make additional plans. But leave the old ones pristine!

I'll go for that, or keep harassing the same people I have been for their beat up users in need of some lovin. I'll figure it out :D....maybe beg the janitor for a custom shop one until he relents :p.

I see your manner of reasoning as reasonable :D....I don't really have one to spare at the momment....I've got a 1/300 which I WON'T EVER modify (unless it's to put on a satin finish), a Slotted Screw with the old style scales (which again, I'm not messing with the SS), a Possible refurb 1/300 or ganzaa knife, a 1/2 Treasure Chest SHBM and lastly my user slotted screw which I would ALSO never change. I might do it with the Treasure Chest SHBM since it's not really anything special other than having a crinkle coat and being in immaculate shape original fresh from the factory.

I think it definitely needs to be sharp enough to get rid of all that back hair, once and for all.

I'm not so sure there's a Busse out there that can succesfully do that without having to have the edge touched up halfway through :p......I'm considering doing the laser treatment :D
