There are lots of great threads with advice on dyeing bone scales to get a different and usually darker color. I have a nice bone handled traditional with mismatched scales and I'd actually like to do the reverse---lighten the darker scales to match better with the more attractive lighter scales on the other side.
In the past, I've noticed that some scales will actually bleed a little color if you simply wipe them with rubbing alcohol, but that had no effect on this knife. I thought about very carefully rubbing with a small amount of nail polish remover or paint thinner, but wanted to put up this post before doing anything risky.
Thanks for any guidance.
