Any tips for re-scaling a slipjoint?

I have an old case pen knife that is damaged too much to carry. I hoped to take it apart, clean what I can, and put new scales on it, but I have never attempted this with a slipjoint with pins. I have looked at kits, but they are mostly linerlocks and fixed blades, but I would like to try taking apart a slipjoint and changing the scales. I don't know where to start, or if this is even possible. Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks, Julian

Julian - It is possible, I started doing some pocket knife repair and maintenance a couple of years ago and started the same way you are with an interest and no practical experience. I learned a lot on this website http://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/ in their sub-forum "Knife Repair and Restoration. Go through the threads over there and you will find several good step by step threads on rescaling.

Another resource I found was the book "Knife Repair and Restoration by Adrian A. Harris" it is availbe on Amazon for about $10.

Good Luck, but I need to warn you the hobby is addicting. You will soon be cruising Garage Sales and Flea Markets looking for salvageable knives to repair.
