Any tips to getting your first Hinderer?

What's up guys. I was looking in purchasing a knife for $400. When I was looking into Sebenzas I learned about Hinderers and fell in love with them. I really really want a XM-18 3.5 inch flipper with the slicer grind but I would not complain if I can find a spanto. I wanted to find a way to find it for $385 new. I cannot buy it from Hinderer himself since I am not in the Military or serve our country. Would my best bet be to go to the East Coast Custom Knife Show in November and try to win a raffle. Also how do the raffles work do you buy the raffles or are they free and all you have to pay for is the knife if you win. Or instead of the knife show should I stalk his online dealers sites until I see one pop up but many of them sell for around $600 I saw one site that sold them for $385.

They had a flash sale for 3" slicers yesterday and the link is still up but out of stock, if I was guessing I would say watch the site close today, they might sell more but they go fast. Anyone can buy from the flash sales. Also follow their Facebook group, they usually post that the sale is live.

Thanks for the tips hopefully I can get one! I will never even sell it for profit just one of my grails.

Your best bet is to closely follow what gets posted on the Exchange......you can pick one up there pretty easily......it's just a matter of waiting until you see the one you want.

The 3.5 XM is an excellent choice.....a gorgeous and insanely well built knife.......you can't go wrong......and as far as the grinds go......wait for the one you really want......but both are fantastic.

Best of luck in your search.....and feel free to shoot me a PM if you have other questions.......I would be happy to try and answer them for you.......

I would highly suggest attending the knife show. In your Op you mention "learning of Hinderer" going to the show would certainly deepen your appreciation of the Brand and the Hobby once you get to meet Rick and Rob and the gang. IMO that is the essence of the experience moving forward.
Very rare you get to meet and get to know the creator of the item(s) that comprise your interests - this is one of those opportunities if you can swing it.
In the immortal words of a great philosopher, "That's all I have to say about that". :)

Well, since you're the Greek god, you should be familiar with the winged goddess of victory, aka Nike, and her famous quote: Just do it! ;)

I've only got one Hinderer. I picked it up back in February. If going to the show is something that you can do, do it! if not, stalk the exchange, like I did! I checked several times daily & always missed a decent deal, although it wasn't the model I wanted, so it didn't sting too bad when I missed out. Patience is a virtue! I work nights and most gear I want is posted & sold during hours I spend asleep. I kept a diligent watch, and one night while I was working double shifts, MY DEAL popped up! The grind I wanted, including a whole slew of accoutrements, for the price I wanted to pay. A couple emails back & forth, and my 3.5 was on her way to me. Was she used? yeah, slightly. Noticeably? Only to the really anally OCD. Would I go back & change my mind? NEVER! Oh, and how does it go? Oh yeah, pics or it didn't happen...

I acquired mine by checking the Exchange forums and biting the bullet when the right one came along. For me it was a 3" XM-18 slicer with bronze hardware.

I rarely look anywhere but the exchange. Especially for xm's.
I'll but a crk from various places, but 90% of my knives came from right here.

I'd recommend going thru the exchange and maybe doing some past searches. In the past month or two, I've seen some brand new ones for already pretty good deals just sit with no bites, and they may still be there. If you can swing an extra 100 bucks or so, you might luck up. And if I can be fortunate enough to acquire a Hinderer or two from flash sales, then anyone can.
