Went to Costco the other day to get one but they sold out. No idea what model it was but my buddy said it had all the features he wanted (which it turns out he could not identify what all the features were).

Anyway any models do you like?

What features do you folks think are the ones worth making sure the rig has?

I want infrared, but I read animals don't really care.

Is video worth it?

GoPro is one of the best sports cameras out there. A friend of mine has taken one hiking, cave diving, swimming, jetskiing, skydiving, etc. and it keeps on going strong. He's done things like stick it up out of his pack on trails with a monopod so it can take a timelapse as he hikes down a mountain. It's an awesome little camera.

Wrong kind of trail cam Grease, but thanks. For hiking I would rather not have to think about a camera. It has a tendency to take me out of the moment

Thanks 555 I will check them out.

I just bought a cheapie from Costco (Stealth Cam) and I already want another.

Sorry for the lag on getting back to you ;) I just did a search and saw that I was not the last one to post

I recently purchased a Moultrie M880 trail cam after reading some excellent reviews for this model at trailcampro dot com. I have to say I am very pleased with the performance so far. Without it, I would never had known about the red fox that cuts through the property nightly. You want a camera with good flash range with enough resolution to capture sharp images. The infrared flash does not seem to spook the game. These cameras are a bunch of fun to use.

Just bought 4 browning range pro and set them up this weekend. I will let you k ow how they do. I have a bushnell that has done well once I managed to get it set up.

Damn, just got a phone call that erased everything I had just typed. Oh well, here I go again...

One feature that would be really nice is having a way to check the pictures in the field. I have mine set up relatively close to the house so it is not that big of a deal at this point, but I do plan on setting it up down near the creek which will be quite a hike. I will probably just buy a second memory card so I would not have to make two trips each time. The main thin though is having a way to check the coverage while settin it up.

At this point since it is relatively new the hard point is not checking it too often. I just read to leave it alone for 7-12 days so that ones scent disapates. I have barely left it for 3-4 days let alone the times I checked it 48 hours after setting it up.

I do have pics of a deer that shows it looking at the camera. Not sure whether it is seeing the infrared or just smells that I was there. I read to set it up higher to get it out of the sight line of the deer, so I will try that next time.

I also want to try strapping a can of cat food or tuna to a tree to see whether there are any fishers or other critters around. I have raccoons, fox, and bear around, but in ten years I have only seen one bobcat and one mountain lion. Would love to get some shots of either of those or anything other than coons, fox, bear or deer, unless of course it is a huge bear
