Hi, just wondering if any knife knuts out there are also triathletes. If so, please answer the following questions so we can this tri community

Age:
Team/club/solo:
Major races for next season (doesn't just have to triathlon):
Best Leg:
Reason you got into triathlon:

me

Age: 19

Team: UC Davis Triathlon Sport Club

Major races for next season: I will run the local Davis 5K and 10K running races. I will also run a marathon (most likely the San Francisco marathon). For triathlon, I'm going to do the Stanford and Davis sprint triathlons. I will shoot for an Olympic Distance triathlon at the end of the season, probably at Auburn or San Jose.

Best leg: run!

Reason for triathlon: I loved running in high school, but UC Davis doesn't have a running club so I went to the next closest thing, triathlon! I never swam or biked before, so I'm still learning both. I completed two sprint triathlons and a marathon last year, so now I'm shaping up so I can be an Ironman (may have to settle for half iron man) when I graduate from college.

Did one once for my 44th birthday as a challenge from my nieces. Hermosa beach California, The Day at the Beach events 1/4 mile ocean swim, 9 mile bike ride, and 3 mile run. Clydesdale 220 pound weight class. It was a good experience. Finished 11th in my group.

Not triathlon, but modern pentathlon:

shooting, fencing, swimming (200m), horseriding(showjumping) and cross-country running(3 km).

I did it for the challenge, but my horseriding was never good enough for me to be able to really compete...

Strive ever for more, for conquest is never done.

And die rather than submit.

wow, pentathon sounds pretty fun. Do you do all the events in a row or in stages?

I don't really compete in triathlon hardcore. I will train myself, but I'm not expecting to win first place. I just like swimming, biking, and running :)

2004, 2005, 2006 I entered one triathlon each summer in my town. 1/4mile swim, 13 mile bike (2 laps), 3 mile run. I got faster each year, beating my then 23-yr-old coworker each time. In 2006 I finished 153rd of 460 overall and got 10th of 26 in my age category (M50-55) 1:21:03"

Funny story: in 2004 and 2005 my buddy Brian got me to enter and each time I pummelled him by minutes. By 2006 he started to push.... (I row and train regularly and pushing hard is nothing new.) So in 2005 he beat me by :20" sec on the swim, :15" on the bike, and :18" on the run. Damn, right? Nahhhhh.....

I ended up beating him by :08" overall. Old age and cunning!!! I didn't use a wetsuit, so I didn't have to get out of that at the first transition (T1) and I simply jammed on my running sneakers with no socks on my bike with the old-style straps to lash me in.

Off the Bike, I flew out of the transition area at T2 in :27", (25th of 460!). I finished 75th on T1. Never discount those 'free seconds'!

So, all my time savings in the two transitions is what put me one spot faster than him (He finished 154th, and our age groups started 20 mins apart!)
I bailed on this year as I hadn't trained, I had a knee surgury in Dec., and Brian was getting even faster. He finished 83rd this year and dropped 7 minutes!

I will do it again next year. I may not beat him, but its quite the challenge. :)

I was a junior triathlete in high school. I did a lot of races but one I remember the most was when I competed in XTERRA East Champs in Richmond when I was like 16 or something and won the junior race, then passed out. I woke up puking and didn't remember my name for 30 minutes. I don't remember finishing and spent two days in the hospital after. Make sure you drink enough water obviously.

My best leg used to be swimming, but I don't really do tri's anymore. I am a college swimmer.

Good luck in your tri career! It really is addicting.
