Any tricks for the Opinels

The old binding, sticking blade, does anyone have a good way to deal with these? I suppose the wood swells inside the front ring.
 
Give the wood some oil. It won't swell up with humidity, and if you put it in the joint, the wood can't hold water against the steel and rust it. If you just soak the thing in something as simple as some mineral oil, you'll be good to go.

I've heard of doing this also, can't remember which type of oil was recommended - tung oil? Udtjim, you might want to post this question in the traditional forum. Lots and lots of folks there that use and love the Opinels, I'm sure you'd get tons of advice there.
 
You could also try building up some hand strength .:o

The traditional French method is to undo the lock and strike the end of the handle firmly on a table top. The blade will pop out slightly and you can pinch it open. I also wrapped sandpaper around a dowel and sanded out an "easy open" notch. :)
