I just picked up a Uncle Henry 898UH Stockman off the evil empire auction site since I was looking for maybe a little smaller stockman than the Buck I have.

From what I've gleaned, these are a Camillus made knife for Schrade from the early 90's it seems. Pics are from his listing. I guess I didn't know or gad forgotten Camillus made knives for Schrade. Or Buck as well.

Was just wondering if anyone else has experience with this knife and their thoughts. It's on the way to me now.

I've always been kinda fond of the older Uncle Henry Staglon line. It Has their stainless blades which I'd assume is like 440C. Always seemed to be a pretty durable, reasonably priced item. This one is new and I got it for a pretty good price I think.

Thanks guys! Joe

You will definitely like that. The Staglon looks in superb nick as well. good score Joe.

This Kabar is the exact same pattern, just a different set of covers and branding, although still synthetic like the Staglon. Great knife.

I just got a Rough Rider Stockman in jigged bone and a Schrade OT(Taylor) in saw cut bone. Both a fine knives. Both harken back to the era of classic stockman.

Rough Rider and Taylor/Schrade do a very good job of making an inexpensive traditional that still feels good and looks good. They might not have the refinements of a US brand, but they make great users. I need to add the 898 to my list, both US and Chinese so I can compare.

A Taylor Schrade I have found particularly nice is the 858OT, either in delrin or bone.

Joe58...wasn't aware these were made by Camillus. Here is mine that I got last year at a "trading post". It been well used but good and tight. I have the box some where too. Good little user knife that will needs to be sharpened some. The staglon is well done, looks real nice.

Actually, I'm just repeating what the eBay seller had in his description. So for myself, I can't confirm that to be accurate. I'm just glad for the positive reviews you guys have given it. And that it's an older one and not the offshore made ones now. I haven't been too impressed with those.

I'll get a couple pics up when it gets here. I'll skin out a small cow or something, since it's a Stockman. Lol.
