Any unique recommendations?

I am looking for a knife that has some sort of smooth and fast opening, with something unique about it. I don’t mind how much it costs but would rather stay in the 150s range. I need it to be reliable, for everyday use. I want a show piece but also a work piece. If you have a suggestion, please suggest. Thank You

Welcome to the forums.

Any idea on blade size? You might get recommendations from 2.5" to 4" blades.

I'd maybe look at some of the exclusives. Like Owen said, hard to find something really unique at that price point.

You said fast opening. Are assisted knives legal where you live?

Knifeworks has the Doug Ritter RSK MK-1 G2 exclusive too. I like the orange G10 version myself for $160. (I can't link, KW isn't a supporting member here at BF)

I've been looking at the SOG Kiku for its unique appearance and tank-like construction. It can be opened three different ways, rides on ball bearings, and has a combo blade grind. The Orange G10 model seems a little overpriced but I'm considering it nonetheless. There's a Micarta variant with a satin finished blade that's a bit cheaper.

I would recommend the Spyderco GB2 , sorta like Mike Tyson in a tuxedo . I paid $138.50 new for mine but that was pre Mad Max world pricing.

It really depends on the kind of work you're going to do with it. Whether you work in a warehouse, firehouse, in an office, or as a youth librarian is going to determine what is an acceptable work knife. Sure a couple of kids will think you're cool for doing library story time with a plushy Corporal Punishment and a tactical knife, but you know someone's going to rat you out to the authorities.

I'm not sure what you mean by show piece, because those are the ones you generally don't make heavy use of, because they're there to hang out and look pretty. Knives are a bit like watches, in that only the few people who are serious about them will actually appreciate what you show them. For most people it's just a sharp and pointy thing, a murdery looking sharp and pointy thing, or a strange looking sharp and pointy thing. Most people looking at a Hinderer knife are just going to focus that there's a pretty horsy logo. Unless you hang out with people who are really into knives, they're not going to know the difference between a gas station knife and an Emerson.

Unique is generally going to be mean custom, but there are a number of less commonly used models out there. Some less commonly used folders that are good knives might be the Cold Steel AK-47, Civivi Backlash with Damascus blade and copper scales, or a Boker Plus Urban Trapper Grand with the Brad Zinker style design. They're not unique, but they're good looking knives that are less commonly found, and can be used. It's that or find an obscure front flipper knife.
Nothing in the 150 range is super unique but the CRKT morphing karambit is fast, slick and a ton of fun to play with. The opening method and pocket clip are both very innovative.
I like mine. It's great for working with cords and cables.

Blackie Collins original Strut N'cut - the one that started the whole assisted ball rolling.
Actually - pretty decent knives. AUS8 with a 59 or 60 RC.

My son gave me mine for my birthday back in 1997 or 1998.

I really like my Benchmade Griptilian with the sheepsfoot blade... 😁
