Been keeping an eye out for any upcoming military sprint runs. I love my mili and would like to pick up a sprint or two for edc but dont wanna pay the secondary market mark up on the currently released models. Any chance Sal has something in the works?

Hasn't been a mention of one that I've seen, and nothing is showing on the exclusives page.

Looking through the history, going back to 2005 there has been one new limited/exclusive/sprint of the Military every year. We already had one this year (the M390 + CF), so if the trend continues, there won't be another until 2013.

That is disappointing would like to see a Blue g10 and titanium framelock mili like they did the M4 mili but with s90v or m390 would make an awesome edc!

History is against you there as well. There hasn't ever been a sprint/limited/exclusive steel used again in a different run with the exception of s30v. It would be nice to have another S90v sprint, though; 2013 will mark five years since the last one.

Well, blue millie in CTS-204P would be fine too. :D

I think the Spyderco sprint runs are*becoming a bit cumbersome. They make a lot of production knives †hat leave little to be desired. But then I prefer to use my knives.

where's the problem withusing sprint runs ? afaik they come in cardboard boxes just like others, not in sealed safes, you can do whatever you want with yours. all mines are users, in fact i buy almost exclusively sprints and i use all my knives, customs, sprints, regular prod.

Same here. I can't enjoy the beauty of most of the new steels they are using by just looking at them. Not accusing mossyhorn of this.

I'll most likely buy any military sprint run that comes out

But my cf/m390 and fluted ti models will be hard to follow... not much I can think of that could be better :D

I like mr singluarity's idea for a blue millie in 204p or 20cp. Would also accept it in that new gold twill cf on upcoming szabo.

It is unlikely that we will see a Military sprint run anytime soon. For some reason there have been a lot of various sprints and exclusives recently, mostly PM2's, but there are very new ones mentioned on the Spyderco website. The upcoming Green PM2 has been announced and sold out for a long time, but likely won't be available for a month or more. This is the only upcoming exclusive that is on the spyderco website. With this amount of lead time, and no other exclusives so far announced, it seems unlikely that any would be available to buyers by the end of the year.

I don't know how they choose which model to make into the next exclusive. Quite a few recent ones have been PM2's but there have also been a good number of militaries and they have issued exclusives of a lot of their other models as well. For all we know the next 5 exclusives could be PM2's again, but with the success of the military exclusives I would be surprised if they don't do more of them.

With the past success of the exclusives it is hard to imagine that there aren't others being planned right now. If a retailer or distributor can order 400 of an item and sell them out in a matter of 7 days, why wouldn't they keep doing this? My only guess is that Spyderco won't take every order that comes along and they have turned down some.

Why wouldn't they? Maybe because 400 pieces at $150 a pop is a $60,000 gamble. Fine as long as it pays off, but it wouldn't take many wrong guesses to bankrupt a company.

Spyderco doesn't choose what model to make into the next exclusive. Dealer exclusives are asked for by the dealer, believe it or not :p

On a slight aside, your post got me thinking about comparing sprints to exclusives. In 2011, there were four sprints of Golden made models, the CF/S90v and grayG10/20cp PM2's, brown G10/XHP Military, and M2 in B75P. This year there was only one, the orange Dodo. In total, there were six sprints in 2011 and four this year, so put another way, 60% of 2011 sprints were from Golden compared to 25% this year.

I'm not sure if all the exclusives from 2011 are listed on spyderco.com/exclusives, but I do see them as far back as March so possibly. Suppose they all are. There are six 2011 exclusives listed and 10 this year. Two of the 2011 exclusives are Golden made, and five are in 2012, meaning ~33% of 2011 and 50% of 2012 exclusives were made in Golden.

Exclusives and sprints combined give 12 for 2011 and 14 for 2012. Altogether, 50% of exclusives+sprints in 2011 were Golden made, ~42% for 2012, and it's even with six a piece per year.

Not that two years provides much towards predicting trends, but there is that constant of six Golden sprints+exclusives per year. We know two now, the Yo2 and M2 XL, so hopefully there will be four more. Perhaps I'm being optimistic, but potentially with four more unknown and a Military sprint or exclusive every year since 2005, it seems like there's a good chance of another in 2013.

I would probably be cautious with MY money, but the recent history of various exclusives is really good and would seem like a very safe gamble. Even the blue PM2 with its inflated pricing sold out eventually. The orange PM2's sold out in 12 days, the green ones sold out in 7 days. I don't know how long it took for the M390/CF militaries to sell out originally but when a few more came onto the market more recently they sold out almost instantly.

seems that alot of people want a blue g10 run regardless of the steel :P maybe if there was enough support in this thread or another one Sal would do it haha
