It's been discussed on these boards about the idea that the millie might get a compression lock like it's little bro the paramillie. so any updates?

i know the millie's liner lock is solid, but i think the compression lock is just that much better. should i wait for this to happen or should i just go for the current millie?

IIRC, nothing has ever been said by Spyderco about updating the Military. Much has been said by others, but it was all requests and speculation to my knowledge.

That being said, I don't think we'd hear anything if it were true. That would drive people nuts, probably even more than the Paramilitary idea. And that's been a hot topic for years.

AFAIK Spyderco (internally) uses the Military as it's test knife for different locks/steels. I've seen the Military with a brand new lock design in A'Dam and at the IWA 2004.
Also, keep in mind that the Military was designed to be used with gloves, so a compression lock, or the new lock I saw would be harder to close then the current liner-lock (with gloves)

Is the new lock apparently like the old one?

No, it was something I had never seen before. It did not have a seperate spring like an axis or ball lock.

Everyone has been asking for a new lock for the Military, but I've never heard anything offical. I would love to see an intergal compression lock or frame lock Military.

Well madfast, carlos sounds pretty certain that the lock's not changing, so go get one without delay! (you won't regret it)

I have read that one of the goals, when Spyderco designed the Military, was to keep it very simple, strong and very light weight. I doubt if they could keep the weight down if you made it with a compression lock or frame lock.

There's been hearsay about the lock changes forever..heck at one time I'd read that the Millie was next for the Centofante secondary lock. I like the big Millie's liner lock but I would like the compression lock more.
