I was wondering with the clock reset, whether there were any updates on how the testing is going? and if we can expect to see the LEs in accordance with the countdown? Pictures are nice, but it would be very welcome to know more.
Thanks;)

A lot of talk about the folder taking abuse but no photos showing anything.

Hmm... the knife is meant to be released in six days and so far no photos showing anything of the abuse that it was meant to be put through. ?

More photos less hype.

Two weeks. (That is the standard answer given to timelines in the Busse forum, and it should work here as well)

There have been plenty of photos posted.

you should just be happy theyre supplying so many photos/so much info in the processof making this knife..
Not very many manufacturers will post so many updates/pictures on the knifes deisgn, and making process.
I dont see why abuse pics are so important. Every one of the knives ESEE has produced has been build like a tank, why doubt them now?

check out all the hest folder threads on the from page. ryp updates them all pretty regularly.

Thanks, I will do that.

I do however concur with MAC2 in that what we have seen are pics of blade blanks and liners, a handful of finished knives, but no actual & factual info, e.g. 5 folders have been tested; 2 failed because of XX, 3 are still going strong, the tests we have put them through so far are YY. I am not even asking for abuse, just feedback on how the testing is going.

I would like to know if for example, that due the testing, major re-work will be required which will delay the production, or whatever. Actual facts.

I dont believe that this is an unreasonable request because this is what I understood would be provided, and frankly I dont care whether other manufacturers do or do not provide updates, I only care about the HEST folder and it is what I was led to believe would be provided.

This is not a lack of faith in a product, but a request to be updated as sold and has nothing to do with the warranty either.

I am a supporter of ESEE and have and continue to recommend their knives, and I am in for 2 LEs, and sorry but 'two weeks' is not good enough.

I thought that was the sort of information that they were not going to let out, I thought that they were doing testing in house so that they could decide how they would warranty the knife, and when someone asked if they would video it or show everyone the results they said that it was for their eyes only and it was only for warranty purposes. That is what I got from reading the different threads, I might be wrong though.

I have teasingly poked at RYP to post pics of his Hest folder that he has been using in the field for 2 months now. He has stated it looks even better after wear and tear. As much as I would love to see photos of it, I will just take his word for it and be thankful for any photos or posts he is willing to put up on this forum. He has never given me any reason to doubt him otherwise.

It seems people are quick to forget that this is a forum and not a direct line to beat up the designers, makers and manufacturers of the knife. Yes you have a right to state your opinion but you must also keep in mind that the owners/designers/manufactures have the right to ignore you. Esee, RYP, and Lion Steel have reputations that are fantastic and should be trusted. As much as I encourage them to post pics, hell I even asked for a webcam to view the process, I always do it with respect for what they have all accomplished in their field. I also know that they are busy either building knives, dodging bullets or planning their next big project. I am thankful that they find time to chime in on the forums at all. I think we all should be.:D

Thanks Whitty - that's a good start.

RYP wrote on 23rd July "In any case we will be running destruction tests on the first runs and posting the results here"

Oh well, lets see what happens when the countdown reaches zero.

From what I understand the Mr DP and the Sterile are the 2 options for the LE's right?

And that OD green handled one with the matte black blade will be the first run of production ones? (Referring to the folder 'photos in hand' thread pics)

I'm hoping for that green one.

RYP said that he's been giving his prototype heavy, daily use in the tropics.

from the pics of posted, there was a large qty of blades in production. and from the qty i can only assume those are production items and not protos.

soooo, i expect that any changes that may have been made are relatively monor, if any.

it's not rocket surgery. i'm sure that someone, somewhere, somehow will eventually make one fail. the design looks robust so i'm not expecting it to have screws falling out after one day of carry like another high end folder i had when i first joined here. (poor design and worse customer service, from a company that's no longer around)

i'm looking forward to getting mine.

i just wish the design had included a flipper, but i can live without it.

It is no wonder people are wanting to see the photos of the knife being used when RYP keeps making posts like the following which i will quote.

"For example I will "blood" my HEST folder on my upcoming trip behind enemy lines in Burma. Conditions will be tropical, mud, extreme humidity etc etc. It will be my only personal blade (HEST fixed for the commanders of course) and it can't fail, be too heavy or get finicky when used for eating, surgery, camp building, cutting etc etc. I don't want it to glint, break, get dull or get lost...and I need to be open in my hand and locked if and when I need it in a pinch."

"The one thing you don't get to see is how great these knives look when they are used and abused. Its going on two months of solid use of the proto and Its becoming an old friend."

"As I mentioned earlier I have been using and severely abusing a prototype for well over a month in probably the worst environment and I have been totally digging it (not to mention a few rebels, Generals, mercenaries and aid workers). "

"The folder has been ground into sand, kept underwater, kept dirty and been used every day. I will post some knife porn when I get decent internet service."

Hopefully Ryp will get a decent internet service soon

I must also state that i am not bashing anyone or anything, a couple of months ago i did not even know much of Esee but i have since bought Ryp's book "Worlds Most Dangerous Places" and look forward to reading it nearer to christmas when my Hest is on its way.
