Like lots of you here I bought a bunch of what I thought was 52100 from Tony Mock. Reading through the painful history on here, I guess it was later identified as 8620. Is there any good use for this steel or should I just stop moving it around every year as part of my household goods? I think I have 3/4" or 5/8" rounds that are 8" to 10" long.

Looks like it's only really good for case-hardened applications, and thus pretty useless for making blades. Maybe bolsters and liners?

What's the analysis? Couldn't it be used in a damascus mix?

Never mind; I did a quick search. I wouldn't use it in a mix.

I've got a good bit of this stuff from the same source, as well. I plan to take it to the metal dumpster at work, when I remember.

Yeah, sorry to re-open this wound for all of you who got screwed too....

I was just doing some rearranging of my shop and came across it again.

I'll use one of them as a shaft for a disk grinder. The rest? Maybe practice on my lathe...

Actually, I really do have a use for this 8620...

I believe I will send it back to the person that sent it to me, no cost to him, no hard feelings...AND HE CAN USE IT FOR A FRICKIN' ENEMA!
