Any user info on the Kershaw Onion/Centofante Sheath?

I'm interested in this as an EDC. I have a ss spyderco dragonfly that's gotten quite scratched up from rubbing against either my keys or my fenix l1p flashlight (I think it's the flashlight) and this would be an interesting solution. However, I have some pants whose pockets were stitched/designed to hold things while standing only, if you know what I mean. The kind where if you sit down or especially if you cross your legs, all your change comes tumbling out and spilling all over the floor because the pocket does not sag with gravity, being stitched somehow to some other part of your pants. I'm worried that under strenous circumstances, the knife might fall out and I won't even know about it if the floor is carpeted or the surroundings noisy enough.

Anyone have any experience with this? Know what I'm talking about with these...somewhat dress oriented slacks? Is the sheath tight enough that I wouldn't have to worry about this without checking for my knife everytime I sit down?

ooheadsoo, as a point of information, the Onion/Centofonte sheath has been discontinued. The model 1615 will now incorporate a pocket clip. There will be confusion as the transformation from sheath to clip happens, but 2006 will see the sheath go away. The clipped versions should be shipping in early spring.

Hi Thomas,

I am worried about the anodize of the knife being scratched by my flashlight, which rides in the same pocket. That's why I am considering the sheathed version.

The sheath does work great, and we have had zero complaints on what you described

On a side note, I must give William Henry Knives credit for the originating this style of clipped sheath. Great folks, incredible knives.

I carry one of these knives in my front pocket of my dress pants and sometimes jeans. It rides along with my car keys (can't say about a flashlight) and my scales show no signs of scratching. This is not an EDC knife, but is holding up well. Hope this helps. My knife is one with the clip and it works nicely. I'm not a huge fan of tip-down but still works just fine. Just to clarify, even though it has a clip, I just drop it in my pocket along with the keys.

It's the flashlight I'm really worried about, rather than the keys. For example, my old keys of 10-15 years have had the same anodize color throughout all these years - until I put that flashlight on my chain two months ago. Now, they've gone from golden brass to pale yellow and I have golden smears all over my flashlight. My normal steel keys didn't have any effect on my brass colored keys. It's also put some large scratches in my stainless dragonfly, so I'm definitely wary, now, and the dragonfly is a lot shorter than the onion/centofante. I should add that even my frn spyderco centofante was scratched on the handle. The clip sheath seems like a great idea for keeping a nice knife in good shape. This flashlight is just wreaking havoc on everything in that pocket. Watch out, fenix l1p users!
