Absolute beginner here - I have some Laurin Mettali blades which I'm planning to finish up with handles. But before I get to that, the blades need to be finished a bit more - not polished, necessarily, but at least fine sanded.
It looks like the blades were punched, as one side of the spine is rounded, and the other has a bit of a rolled-over edge. Also, on blades with ricasso, the top and bottom of the ricasso are a bit 'twisted'.
How far should I go to get the blade symmetrical? I don't want to thin the blade too much, or grind back the shoulders of the ricasso too much, but....
Suggestions appreciated. Thanks.
