So are there any opinions on the 8 inch bladed NMSFNO knife recently offered by Busse Combat? Hows the chopping power and ergonomics? Comparisons with other similarly sized knives?

I'd like to hear some from the good wilderness forum people :) !

It's not as good a chopper as the SARSquatch but it is a very good all rounder. I had a BK-9 and it was equal to that for chopping. I would say that the only reason they were equal was due to the BK having a razor edge compared to the factory edge of the NMSFNO. The NMSFNO has more weight so that's what helped up it's chopping ability.

All in all it's a very good knife and one of the 'If I can only have one knife what would I choose'' category. I would say it's better than the ASH-1, Satin Jack TAC and Hell Razor but that's just my opinion.

I really like the NMSFNO. It's "enough" for me .......big enough, yet still small enough, and tough enough to get a good spread on knife needs. Not the perfect knife for any 1 particular use but plenty good for lots of uses :)

I respectfully disagree. My NMSFNO will easily out-chop my SARsquatch. Balance is further forward on the NO and the shallower grind really gets the wood to split apart faster.

In a few words, it's my favourite Busse currently. It's no axe, but chops more than well enough for my needs. Compared to an ASH-1 for example it is much more comfortable in chopping. In chopping power, it's better than for example the Busse SARSquatch or the SR Chopweiler, but the Fällkniven A2 gives it a run for its money, and the NMSFNO is no match for a hukari in chopping. I don't really have anything bad to say about the NMSFNO, at all. The edge retention is fantastic (but then, it's INFI) and the knife is as tough as they come. I like the handle ergonomics on both the LE with hand-shaped mags and the CG I have with machined mags. Using the choil - which is useful to have on a knife this large - is more comfortable than on the FFBM for example because of the NM treatment (rounded edges on the choil and spine). It's not a very fine woodworking tool, but then, I'm not sure anyone would expect it to be. It'll do a lot of jobs decently, but nothing fantastically well. It's a great all around knife for those who desire a One Knife To Do It All, or it's a great big knife for those who want to carry more than one edged tool. Plus, it looks pretty nice.

Oh, and the CGs are convex ground with secondary V edge bevels, and the LEs are full convex.

Thanks everyone for your opinions! Much appreciated!!

Jerry sure knows his knives :) ...

Thanks for your thoughts. Could you help me out just little. I can't find weight of a NMSFNO anywhere... how much does it weigh??

Unfortunately I don't have a good small scale around here for accurate measurements. The weight will vary some, since the G10 scales are heavier than the micarta ones, and some NMSFNOs are thicker than others... but I would guesstimate my CG weighs around 600 grams or 21 ounces. I don't know how accurate that guess is, but that's around how heavy it feels in hand. But then again, I'm not very good at estimating weights with my bare hands. :D

Good guess. I haven't measured it myself. But on another forum someone gave a weight of 20.8 oz.
