Any Way to Change Scales on Old Bone-Handled Gerber?

In around 1995, I wanted a Gerber folding knife with a stag or bone handle, and it turned out they were hard to find. I ended up buying one, but I never carried it because I could not get used to the scales. For some reason, Gerber put a white scale on one side and a red one on the other. The knife is sitting in its box with its sheath, unused.

Is there some way to change the scales on this knife? I don't even know how they're held on. The knife is a Folding Sportsman II.

Sure a few people can do that. But the $$$ can be more than the knife cost. If you didn't like it enough to use it 26 years ago are you sure you'll like it now after spending more?

I think it's one of those "If you have to ask how" sort of skills.

You could try dye but if they'd still be different hues.
