Any way to tell the model year of a Sebenza?

Just picked up a used large regular Sebenza in a trade. The previous owner didn't know the details behind the knife (i.e. DOB). Is there any way to tell the year model or if the blade is BG42 or S30V by just looking at the knife? Not a big deal, just curious.

Thx,
Steve

BTW - This is my first Sebenza, but I doubt it will be my last! :)

You can get an approximation of the year by looking on the inside of the handle. That will tell you the year the handle was made but not necessarily the knife. The knife is typically made later. Up to a year later in some cases? I'm not 100 percent certain about that though.

my large plain Sebby was born on 11-26-01.One handle is marked A 01, the other is B 01. My understanding is the letters are the batch number for that year. My small is marked both B 02, cant find box. I believe I bought it in fall of 02.

Thanks for the info! The knife is so new to me I haven't even taken it apart and cleaned it yet. Looking on the inside of the handle and it has "C 03", so it must be from 2003 and I'm thinking that means the blade is S30V.

I believe the blade has a mark of some sort. Sounds like your knife was made in late 03 or early 04. My small Sebby made in 02 does have S30v.
